We stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. The place never had more than a table or two empty. The Black and Blu burger was good, the chili was not. The children’s fish and chips order was 50/50: fish was good, waffle fries were bland. We had the pale ale, stout and barley wine. The pale was great and the other two decent. Stop by if you’re in Sacramento.

Second time here, first time I have had food. Nice pub atmosphere, nothing too fancy, but for a brewpub it is right in there. Had the fish and chips and a pale ale, both were average side. Waffle fries could use some seasoning up. Service was very good. As I recall the last time, I had a couple of pints, again, average. They seem to be just a kinda average place, and they were busy both times, so it seems to work for them. Easy to find, decent parking on the street, at least on a Sunday night.

They had a great guest beer selection - Big Daddy from Speakeasy,....one of the best T-shirts we ever bought (Rosebud). Although the pub is not great, would definitely come back when next time in Sacramento

(Visited 10/2012): Rubicon is located in Midtown Sacramento on Capitol Ave and 20th. Street parking is fairly plentiful in the area but you might have to walk a bit.

There is a small patio out front. Inside there is table seating on the left side and the bar is on the right. Boards listing the beers available in both areas.

Rubicon has around 8 house beers on tap and they offer a sampler. On my visit they had their flagship beers plus a few I have not tried like Capricorn Black, Winter Wheat Wine and Cali Stout. All of the beers I tried were decent. They also have a couple guest taps from the likes of Auburn Alehouse and Sierra Nevada.

Service on my visit was pretty good. There was a SF Giants game on TV and the bar was packed so we sat at a table, and the server was efficient and knew their beers pretty well.

We did not have any food on our visit.

Overall this is a nice little brewpub to visit in Sacramento.

A nice brewery located in a residential area. It is sort of small but also has outdoor seating. The food was fresh and well-prepared. I plan to re-visit for Firkin Thursday.

6pm on Sunday, beautiful day. Bar area is almost empty , yet the bartender doesn’t make an effort to provide great device. Crowd is mostly middle aged yuppies and old people outside. Beer is decent, nothing special. Didn’t eat. I don’t think I could live in Sacramento if this is the best the city has to offer.

Stopped in here for a beer sampler on my way home from a training in Sac. Very nice location in downtown Sacramento, yet you feel like your in an older residential neighborhood which give it a more laid back feel. The decor is old school brewpub fare. I liked the old brick and stone work. The tables and chairs were a bit uncomfortable though. The bar area was small and I had to wait a few minutes to get a spot at about 2:30 in the afternoon on a Friday. I was ignored for about 10 minutes, but the bartender apologized when she did come over and was very friendly and attentive after that. The beers are all very good with the pilsner and IPA being stand outs. This place has a very local feel to it as most of the people at the bar all knew eachother. They were friendly to me though, so it made it an enjoyable part of the experience. I didn’t have any food, but I hear it’s pretty good. Overall, I liked this place. Old school, and could use some updating (including the beer list), but nice atmosphere and good beers.

I really enjoy this place! I had thier sampler for beer, and all of the beersare really good. My second time there they were hosting Bear Republic for Sacramento Beer Week. All of bear republics beers were also good.I had the tri tip steak with grilled onions, and the food is fantastic! With a pretty good selection for a pub. Ambiance is sort of to be expected, nothing too out of the ordinary. Both times the service has been nothing to complain about. Very prompt, and friendly. I really enjoy eating/drinking here.

Stopped in for a sampler on 8/7/10. 11 samples total, 7 of which were theirs (they had guest taps from Firestone Walker and Ale Industries along with 2 ciders from Two Rivers). I was surprised that they offered samples of the guest taps and ciders, but the more the merrier. Didn’t try any food. Service was friendly and attentive. Music sounded a lot like what my dad listened to in his day (Moody Blues, Ambrosia, Carly Simon, Led Zeppelin, Bread, etc.), but I was digging it. Thanks beer! Overall worth the stop.

This is the best place in Sacramento for American made craft beer. Fairly boring restaurant, but nothing bad about the place. A little wanna-be hipster... but what are you gonna do. Good pub food and a good selection of beer from Rubicon as well as other local breweries. A must go for beer people while in Sac.
