After visiting here, I could have called it quits on my beer journey.
Ambiance: Rolled up on a Wednesday night real late. The place was full, but not too loud. Perfectly lit, high ceilings. Great coastal breeze everytime the door opened.
Service: Was treated damn near like a king by Jeff the bar tender, who didn’t know me from any other stranger. Very attentive, very responsive, as were all the other staff members I encountered. Let me have half glasses, so I could try more beers.
Food: Had the Excel Pizza, and it was amazing. Others in my party enjoyed it as much as I did.
Value: A very inexpensive trip for pizza, Pliny and all the sour beers they had on tap.
Overall: Amazing place I want to go back to. Other brew pubs and beer bars should take notice. This is how to run a business.
Really there are very few places id rather be drinking. If my house was this place, id rather be there... the food is perfect pub fair, the beer is beyond legendairy and the noise is loud enough that you really have to shout... which is perfect. love it love it love it
Made a trip out here when I was back in SF visiting family - just so happens it was during Pliny the Younger’s 2 week stay....
Okay, so I got here on the Thursday night after Younger had been released. I wanted to be there around lunch time but ended up there about 5pm - nervous the day’s allocation of Younger had been consumed... We get there and there is a line outside the brewpub and down the sidewalk a bit. Luckily not so daunting a line. After about 20-25min of waiting we finally got in...
Atmosphere: Definitely a laid back environment here with a dedicated local scene within this historic district of town. The Jr college is just around the corner. They’ve got an outside patio with plenty of seating and the inside is a lengthy bar with an easy 20-25 seats - additional tables toward the front. During my visit this place was obviously packed and Pliny the Younger was everywhere. I even saw people downing it like they were shots...
Quality: WORLD CLASS - and by world class I’m not just describing the beer... the pizza is absolutely PHENOMENAL! I had "the Mikey" and after leaving I couldn’t stop ranting about the quality of their pizza. If I lived here I’d be there daily.
Service: I managed to get a bar seat within 10min of entering thanks to luck’s hand and this helped a bunch. Only 2 guys were working and they had many orders to keep rolling - doing so with haste.
Selection: 20+ of the breweries own beer’s written on the massive chalkboard over the bar and a menu of food easily comparable to any Italian restaurant + much more deviations.
Food: As I couldn’t help but mention already... PIZZA!!!
Overall: A must visit. Simply put. Great area of California, great area of Santa Rosa. Do yourself a favor and travel there. Just standing in line I met 2 guys who flew down from Seattle to be there for the unveiling.
If you like beer, looking at their beer menu will sit you on your 8ss, possibly the best IPAs share one half of the beer menu with their other amazing beers, and then there is the other half of the beer menu, with all the Belgian style beers, absolutley amazing.
The pizza and salads are good too, but you go for the beer.
Reviewing comments, the staff knows their stuff..? everyone I ran into could tell me yeast, hop, aging, bottling info and of course they know about their pizzas.
Amazing place, its hour drive for me, but I never regret going.
Sunday is all day happy hour! Happy hour prices on Pliny the Elder and Younger and Blind pig, what else can you ask for?
I give high marks but I have never given a 100 - although i will when I review the tornado in a minute.
Vinnie and crew deserve a 100 or more.
For those who don’t know, there is a genius among us. A rare form genius in the prime of his career in the prime of the craft beer revolution.
This is like living San Francisco when Montana and Rice were in their prime.
Best beer and best brewer end of story.
Rejoyce for rrbc.
One of my favorite beer places in the world. Beers just outstanding. Lambics are sooooo good, you think you are in Cantillion in Brussels, also IPA’s and other styles great. Like the bar and food and just everything here.
Visited twice in less than 24 hours, good looking exterior but I preferred both times the bar! Spend all the night there and was very crowded, met very nice people and good live music. The beers... Well.. Simply outstanding! Pliny, consecration, blind, supplication freaked out my mind! The morning after had nice lunch!
So a shame Santa Rosa is not my home. Would love to
Amazing beers!!! Ales and wild ales.
The ambiance is like an students bar. Not luxury, easy going!

This place is amazing. 16 taps of shockingly good beer, an incredible blues band, very friendly and helpful staff who are generous with the samples, and a whole bunch of really friendly locals. How can you possibly ask anything more from a bar. Come here. Now.
