82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 GT2 (375) Jurupa Valley, California | November 22, 2012 Same owners as Churchkey, Neighborhood Restaurant Group, and comes across at Churchkey Lite with a big focus on beer but smaller tap list and smaller bottle list, but still huge compared to most beer bars. Interior is spacious, more like a corporate design inside rather than custom like CK. Tap list had much less bizzare stuff, only perhaps 1 or 2 beers I had never had before. Offers small pours of tap beers, which is nice. Pizzas were very nice. Loved the Greek pizza. Took my grandfather here actually and he enjoyed his pizza as well. Quick service. I liked it. Excellent place to stop by especially if picking up or dropping off someone at Reagan National that is only about a mile away. Only qualm is that the full menu is not available under 5pm or something so you are having the ’bar menu’ which is mostly sandwiches and pizzas. Thankfully the food was all very good. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Iphonephan (77) Virginia | November 10, 2012| Updated December 21, 2012 Very good food, nice ambience and interesting beer menu. Many drafts with reasonably priced tastings. Bottle menu is impressive but with breathtaking prices. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 16/20 JoeinEscazú (268) San Jose, Costa Rica | August 31, 2012| Updated December 21, 2012 Open and airy place with a modern feel, despite the name. Good pizza and other grub, with the diverse and interesting beer list we’ve come to expect from Greg Engert & Co. I appreciate the well-chosen mix of American craft and interesting imports. Wish it were more convenient to the Metro line, but it is walkable in fair weather. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 jcos (55) Maryland | May 31, 2012| Updated December 21, 2012 Stopped in with Ben4321, brunch was good and had a solid beer list, similar to Churchkey in setup but a solid place on it’s own. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 ben4321 (165) Hoboken, New Jersey | May 29, 2012 Swung in here for brunch and a brew when we were down in NOVA this past weekend on the way to Old Town, and I was rather impressed. The place had a really nice design/feel to it. The serer was friendly and attentive. The beer list was quite nice as well, with some interesting drafts and a huge bottle list. It was semi-reminiscent of Church Key (for obvious reasons), but it felt like its own place. My brunch was also outstanding, which is always a nice plus. I would definitely return if I was in the area. Not quite on the Church Key level for a purely beer perspective, but still an excellent place to visit. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 DiarmaidBHK (546) Pennsylvania | May 29, 2012 Located in a newish development outside of Alexandria. It was a very comfortable bar space with very nice chairs and bathrooms close to the staging area. Obviously there was a lot of thought to mood and the drinking experience. They had 25-30 taps plus 2 on cask. The prices were typical of the DC area although the price on the JW Lees Harvest Ale was very reasonable. I’ll definitely be back. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 magsinva (136) Virginia | May 27, 2012 Great taps (30+), great bottle list (300+), bartender was knowledgeable. Great modern funky industrial feel with some great mosaic clearly delinitating the bar space from the restaurant which I like. Parking is terrible. We had trouble finding a spot at 11 PM on a Sunday! The taps range from $6-$10 per glass with happy hour specials. They keep 2 rotating casks (flying dog disobedience and lost rhino MIG when I went). This place is completely out of the way, but I’d definitely give it another visit as I didn’t try the food (kitchen closed at 10 PM). | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 heminator (7) Virginia | March 27, 2012 Decent atmosphere, with upscale pub fare. Bottle list has some nice surprises. It’s pretty good for a neighborhood restaurant. It can be crowded and parking is an issue. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Thorpe429 (58) , Illinois | February 16, 2012 My wife and I visit this location several times a month, and it never gets old. The atmosphere is really nice. It has a very modern feel with nice decor. It’s usually crowded enough to not feel like a forgotten location, but is rarely excessively crowded, though admittedly we don’t tend to go here on Friday or Saturday nights. The only place I take off points here is the lighting, which is almost non-existent in some areas of the bar.
The beer quality and selection are both fantastic. While the selection has dipped a bit since Churchkey opened up and presumably takes some of Rustico’s allocation, this is still one of the prime spots in Northern Virginia to grab a beer. The tap list is filled with interesting offerings from here and abroad, and is frequently rotating.
The service is normally quite good. Some of the bartenders and servers are friendlier than others, but all tend to be very competent.
The food is quite good. The pizzas are my favorite, though the entrees tend to be very nice as well.
Overall, it is a bit on the pricey side, but not out of the norm for the area. | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 10/20 DonSimonsi (11) , | February 11, 2012 I had such high hopes and was really let down on my first and only visit. I tried several tap beers and was not happy with any of them. The Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere was poor and sad. If you are going to offer so many tap beers you need to work hard at looking after them. The pasta dish I ordered arrived uncooked and was sent back. The manager dealt with the problem well which gave me the impression he had a lot of experience with "problems" On a good note, the decor and feeling of the place was great. |
