Nice pub in central Bath. They carry Bath Ales beers, which are all pretty OK though certainly not outstanding. The pub itself is quite nice, very clean, at once modern and classic. Prices are average, staff is friendly and put together, in case you care about that kind of thing. Good music, free wifi. Worth a quick visit if you’re in the city.

New, small, easy, clean modern indie feel. One of the better places to try the range of Bath Ales (which have become very variable in quality unfortunately). Several are keg, not cask--which is sad but fortunately makes the beer quality more consistent than they have been @ other Bath pubs. Two doors down from good cheese shop and The Raven.

Nice, newish-looking place that nevertheless feels pretty comfortable. Bath Ales are too buttery for me, so we didn’t find much to drink here. It’s very close to the Raven, just past the cheese shop. Worth a visit if you want to try the Bath Ales - their other pub in town in the Hop Pole which does excellent food but is a bit out of the way.

The pub itself is worth a visit, very close to the Raven, just that the range is a bit dull and staid. It was quiet on my visit,supped one and left.

Visited on 07/05/09. Bath Ales pubs are consistent, both positive aspects such as the attractive stripped down decoration, and negative ones such as the disappearance of guest beers. Some in the Bristol area now sell none, and it wasn’t a surprise that the Salamander was the same. However, the Bath Ales beers are drinkable enough and the Salamander is a pleasant environment to drink in. That said, the Raven (a few doors away) is a better bet.

This place was not originally a pub and has had a number of uses down the years. By the 60s it was a hip, but scruffy, pub. Bath Ales bought it a few years ago and gave it a makeover in stripped down, bare boarded, woody style which gives the impression of a far older pub than it actually is. One of two Bath Ales outlets in the city (see also the Hop Pole). This would be a cosy spot to find a corner and work your way through the Bath offerings but its a small, and popular, place so, unless you go at a quiet time, be prepared to jostle. As well as three or four Bath Ales on handpump, there a couple of changing guests, Bath Organic Lager on keg plus some slightly more interesting than usual lagers. Supposedly has some bottled Belgians but I couldn’t get to the right part of the bar to get a look. There’s an upmarket and highly regarded restaurant upstairs (we didn’t eat), which is pretty much distinct from the pub downstairs. Bath bottled beers and merchandise on sale. The bar staff were a bit overworked and distracted on our visit.
