Just loved this place. Very well staffed and comfortable. Carefully picked bottles. Easy conversation. Relaxing. Mostly local brews. Pretty much perfect.

Visited on a Thursday just after lunch. Walking up, very much reminded me of a Milwaukee corner tavern. The interior continues this theme, with inlaid bottle caps in the bar, a dark wood bar back, Packer crap everywhere, etc. The bottle selection is location in the front half of the building. Selection is limited compared to other bottle shop / bar combos I visited in Portland, though I will say the prices on what they had was about half of what I had seen elsewhere. 10 well chosen taps, utilize the Digital Pour system which is always appreciated. Food menu is Pasties and general other midwest favorites. Services was fun. Worth a stop, particularly if you miss midwest taverns.

Great place. Really good atmosphere and large range of bottles in the fridges. The taps were the best part though. Some very different stuff from other places in town. And the pasties were great too. Maybe a little out of the way, but pretty close to the Max stop and was perfect for me as I was visiting Mississippi Records. Will definitely do that double header again.

Stopped in while walking to hop and vine. I just had time to look around at the bottle selection and see what was on tap. Nice tap list and the bottle selection was small but all good stuff.

This place cracks me up. The Midwest theme gets me every time. Especially the bathrooms. Cool old fridges house the bottled selection and the tap-list is usually well-managed. The food, well, it’s cheap and hearty with a kitsch edge to it.

Interesting little joint. We sat at the bar and had a small session. Selection is very good, I had no need to dip into the coolers for bottles because the tap list was fun but the bottle variety is extensive. I drank a few Berliners and a glass of 2013 Alaskan smoked porter (hel-lo!). Also Hop & Vine is about 10 minute walk down Killingsworth, and it is best to visit both :)

Really cool place with great stiff on tap and in bottle. Employees were knowledgeable and fun to chat with. A nice selection for a all place.

A funky, cool bar for the beer lover a little north of downtown. It’s a long shoebox space with booths and highboys scattered through. But the first thing you notice is the rows of coolers, housing bottles you can order and crack for on-site consumption. Some of the bottle selections are damn good stuff, and there’s also a fair bit of coverage for what’s going on around the Oregon scene in general--so there are a lot of decent everyday beers alongside the fancier stuff. Prices are good and staff is very nice, but these guys are mostly known for the cool vibe the places carries. They have slick-looking bottle cap art under resin on most of the tabletops, and tons of cool taxidermy and signage on the walls. It feels like it could have been here for 50 years or more. They serve great deviled eggs, which are always a wise choice at midnight after an evening of beer. There’s a back room where they host special events (beer dinners and the like), and it always feels like people are having plenty of fun here. I’ll definitely be back more often when in town.

Great bar in a progressive Portlandy neighborhood. The atmosphere is a bit rough around the edges (hell, they keep Hamm’s permanently on one tap.): brick and wood and scuffed up bar stools. Loud laughter and conversation between the staff and patrons. 10 taps, all NW stuff (most of it fairly different from what might appear at say Belmont Station or Bailey’s Taproom), except for the Hamm’s. Samplers available: five generous pours for $8.50. 200+ bottles, some vintages, some six-pack stuff. Friendly, quick, no-nonsense service. Limited food menu. Their specialties are pasties and smoked meats. In fact, you’ll probably leave the place with the scent of sausages or bacon on your clothes. I had the half pasty and bowl of soup, both very good. Recommend this bar highly

Very nice and comfortable local pub. Only 10 taps but tons of bottles at a very good price. Service was good, but for a small place I wouldn’t expect less. Food was a bit disappointing, had the pastie and it was a bit dry and for the price it should have blown my socks off. Worth the trip out of the core.
