The Sausage Tree is a very nice café bar / gastropub with 50 different types of sausages plus an extensive grill menu of steaks and "exotic platters" of meat from all sorts of animals - kudu, springbok, llama, impala, oryx, eland, camel, zebra, wildebeest, crocodile and kangaroo. I’d just popped in for a drink before catching the train home (there’s an underpass close by that leads almost directly to the London-bound platform at the station and, incidentally, almost directly to the Belle Vue pub too!) but I decided to have a spot of lunch. Not feeling too adventurous, I opted for soup and a sandwich, both of which were excellent. There are two hand pumps with Rebellion beers and a long bottle list with lots to choose from. Despite being hidden in a maze of Victorian terraced streets (with limited parking), this is wildly popular - you’ll need to book. There’s only two cask ales, usually Rebellion, plus a few other continental tap beers. However, as the sister venue to the nearby Bootlegger specialist bottled beer bar, it carries an excellent selection of bottled beers (although less unusual ones than the Bootlegger. But the beer is only a side show to the food - this claims to have England’s biggest selection of sausages (approx 50 different types), plus also carries a huge selection of exotic meats (we had llama and springbok) which you cook on "hot rocks" in front of you at the table. The staff are very knowledgable about the beers, and good about matching them to the food. Great fun, well worth trying - but you’ll probably need to book.
