86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 17/20 wheresthepath (47) , England | October 25, 2011 Despite being hidden in a maze of Victorian terraced streets (with limited parking), this is wildly popular - you’ll need to book. There’s only two cask ales, usually Rebellion, plus a few other continental tap beers. However, as the sister venue to the nearby Bootlegger specialist bottled beer bar, it carries an excellent selection of bottled beers (although less unusual ones than the Bootlegger. But the beer is only a side show to the food - this claims to have England’s biggest selection of sausages (approx 50 different types), plus also carries a huge selection of exotic meats (we had llama and springbok) which you cook on "hot rocks" in front of you at the table. The staff are very knowledgable about the beers, and good about matching them to the food. Great fun, well worth trying - but you’ll probably need to book. |
