Went on Good Friday. Awesome decision, for the Fastenbier. Terrible decision, for there was no pork on the menu! The food we did get was incredible, but I wish I would have thought about that first. I really wanted pork. Fastenbier is one of my favorite beers in the world. It was pouring from the cask at a furious rate. I drank 2.5 liters. The place is like a maze of rooms. All of them were packed with people. Find a table with an open chair or two, and sit. It doesn’t matter if there are other people there. Just sit and start drinking. This was the highlight of my trip. I loved Schlenkerla.

First stop in Bamberg, the Rauch is superb from the wood. Totally trad and all the better for it.

Nice little hole in the wall. old style decor and very busy place for dinner. Not so busy when I stopped in for a smoked marzen for breakfast at 0900! The beer list is simple, the marzen always on draft and sometimes they have the special stuff like the urbock, doppelbock or festbier. If you love German food like I do, you will love anything off the menu. The prices are amazing! Really enjoyed the visit here.

Crowded on a Friday evening. Service was decent, I guess. Patrons rather unfriendly. People milling around since it was full to the brim. Not very nice atmosphere, but I suppose it was a bad time. The Märzen’s the regular 2,5€ and it is superbly delicious fresh and straight from the tap so can’t complain in that part.

If you like Rauchbier you have to come here. The beer on draft is even better than in the bottle. If you have a chance to come in December you can taste the delicious Bockbiere. Ambiente is unique, each room has its own character. All food great and very low priced. You should combine your visit with a tour of the maltery Weyermann.

A world classic; smoked lager straight from the wood. Spent several hours there on two trips. Crowded and can be full of tourists; but the beer is a world classic (and takes some getting used to.)

Very beautiful place .. Just in the hearth of the fantastic bamberg ... Classic franconian restaurant/pub with a lot of wood .. Visited in November 2011 at dinner time had a couple of rauch marzen exceptional and knuckle of pork very tasty that filled me up .. Maybe too much !!!
