Went early for Früschoppen, tried the Kräusen, Weiße and Märzen, all excellent. The location is full of atmosphere. The service was impeccable, mostly because I was there when the place was empty. The food was very good and the prices fair. Of course the selections is limited to the house beers, but what else would one want?!

Visited May 2011. Great historic place. The beers are great as expected and the food heavy on the stomach as expected too! Worth a visit, would go again.

Visited on a Monday, so probably not the busiest day of them all. We sat outback, there are a few tables available outside. Drank Schlenkerla from wood and their smoked weizen, both were really delicious. We tried some of their Schlenkerla whisky as well which was really cool, novel and interesting if not excellent. I’m not a super fan of the vibe of the place, kind of touristy (didn’t help that there was a TV crew in there at the same time as us) but it is a monument in brewing. As mentionned as well, the gift shop has tons of swag and alcohol to bring home.

We arrived quite early on a Thursday lunchtime that just happened to be Fathers Day in Germany. We were 2nd in there but within 15 minutes it was rammed. The overworked waitress coped manfully but soon after we arrived she would only serve the standard in the wood Schlenkerla, so I was quite lucky in getting a choice. It is a lovely building throughout, full of character and atmosphere. Excellent.

Finally made it to Schlenkerla! This was an awesome experience and I made sure to stop by a handful of times during my Bamberg stay. The beer...oh that glorious smoky nectar is the real deal and if you appreciate rauchbier then having it from wood for the first time is a truly wonderful moment. I loved it, no doubt busy during the day but standing outside soaking up the atmosphere early evening is magic. Until next time...

Visited during Jolly to Bamberg 2014. Rather crowded even on a late evening. Very nice beers but not that much to choose from. We had to stand ina corner, it was impossible to fina a table. Nice to have been there, but not a must. Several better places in Bamberg.

Visited on a number of occasions, most recently a very brief head in the door on the Post Xmas Blues Jolly to Bamberg, 25/01/14.
Trad wood panelled German set up with a side corridor, rausch from the wood - so much better than the bottled version. On the other side of the bar is the beer garden/patio.
Ive visited here mid evening circa 1900/2000 when the place is pretty packed, you’ll struggle to get a table particularly in the summer months.
Winter gives you more of a chance, but a late evening visit - 2200/2230 will prove a better time for this purpose.
Service here has always been fine in th typical abrupt and effiecient manner found in Germany.
A little touristy when compared to the likes of Spezial but a must visit on a tour of Bamberg bars.
Check out the Rausch schnapps too!

Having visited this wonderful tavern at least twice a year for the last 7 years, I’m hardly a regular, but I love it. Yes, it can be touristy (unless you actually live in Bamberg we are all tourists), yes the service is, shall we say curt (its busy) and yes they "only" have 1-2 beers on draft. But the food is great, the history, architecture and atmosphere unparalelled and the beer is unique, wonderful and served vom holzfass (from the wood). Why would you want 10, 20 or 30 beers on draft when you can have the Marzen? World class.

Great place. Perhaps too touristic, but for this entertainment people travel to Bamberg. 10 from 10!
