stopped off at Lunch time. It was very slow but I got friendly service in a place definetly working hard to take you to Bavaria. The range of beers was a bit limited, but plenty of authenytic German beers on tap. they might consider adding some American Bavarian style efforts. Real glass ware, bier Garten, very nice

Wow I was impressed. It is the most German Bavarian type place I have ever seen in the USA. Being from Germany that says a lot. Beer selection is good and it is perfect with the Bavarian fare. Has everything a true Bavarian place would but with American service. Bravo, thumbs up on this one. As far as the mushy kraut goes thats the way it is in Barvaria and the same goes for the dopplebock in the mug especily a stone one.

A Bavarian restaurant located in downtown Hagerstown, it’s very cozy and small and I imagine that on a weeknight you would need reservations because the inside dining area only has around 15-20 tables. The decor is steins and oversized glasses lining the walls, and the servers are dressed up (ugh) but apparently the place is very authentic with their recipes - the owner is from Bavaria. The beer list is on their website, and it’s fairly current: draft beer included Spaten Optimator, Marzen & Hell, Erdinger hefeweizen and Bitburger pils. Bottle list included Abbaye des Rocs Grand Cru and two Liefmans fruit lambics, with the rest of the list being mostly German bottles. If they could get Schlenkerla on the menu it would really be rocking. Food is solid - plates range from $18-25, and if you want the pork shank you either have to come on Wednesday or give 24 hrs notice. We had the schweine schnitzel w/ gravy (which was amazing) and the pot roast with a sweet-sour sauce. The cabbage tasted authentic but the texture was a little mushy, and the dishes were served with a side of corn salad, which I wasn’t expecting but which was really good. Overall a great place to enjoy a meal in W Maryland, and the draft Optimator was so fresh and delicious it left me with cravings the next morning. Doppelbock server in a mug (ugh) but pils is served in a proper flute.
