I lived down the street for four years, so this was my regular hangout between 1990 and 1994. I loved it then, as it was the "new" brew pub in town (the old one, the Santa Cruz Brewing Company and Front Street Pub, closed many years ago). The beer is good, not great, and it is walking distance to Seabright beach and the yacht harbor. The menu has changed numerous times over the years, but it has always been decent. My tastes have changed, too, so the amber that I so loved in the past is not as dear to my heart any longer. But it is still a good place to grab a locally brewed beer.

The most potential in Santa Cruz - a large outside patio in the sunshine. Interior is cramped and small. Foods mediocre, beerís less than that by modern standards. Parkings a pain, itís in need of a revamp. Badly.

Aging hippies and bros, decent food, generic samey beer. One time I got literally forgotten by the staff while I was seated outside. Itís an institution and the brewer is cool but it just isnít a good product. I also hate their parking lot.

Right near the water and not too far from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Sat inside at the bar as I was just there for a quick flight, but you can sit out on the patio or at some high-top tables inside. The service was friendly and quick and everyone there seemed to be locals/regulars. They had 8 beers here and they were really, really bad. I wouldnít bother unless you really just want the ticks.

Stopped here for lunch while helping my brother move out of his apartment in Santa Cruz. This place is very Santa Cruz. Flip flops are a must, dogs are welcomed, shirts are optional. The view is nice too, as itís surrounded by water (sort of). We sat on the back patio which is right next to some train tracks. By that I mean that if a train goes by you can reach out from your seat and touch it. A train went by and there were some (possibly drunk) college kids riding on top of one of the cars.
The beers were average over all, maybe a little below average. I had an IPA that I quite liked. At some point I should go back to try some of the seasonals as they have a lot of beers listed.
Prices for beer and food are about what youíd expect from a brewpub (as opposed to a warehouse brewery). Service was a bit slow at times. My sandwich was decent.

A dark little brewpub, with lots of local punters. Lots of high tables and stools kept in light wood. The bar is a bit confusing with lots of different signs. Had 6 of their own beers of decent quality, though nothing outstanding.

June 2009. Iíd known of this place for some time and had wanted to go for a while. Itís in this odd little strip mall location, with a patio dining area that overlooks a semi-busy street, decked out with cheap furnishings. I was kinda disappointed in my initial impressions. They had some quality beers offered, but they all were at the level of good homebrews -- nothing worthy of commercial retail success. The service was lax, dominated by "donít care" hippies. The food was average.

Seabright makes some good beers and some pretty lackluster beers, but they usually have at least one decent seasonal to try, and they sometimes put a new one on every couple of weeks which can keep thing interesting (though if they make yet another version of the same boring american wheat with a cute/clever name this summer I might just boycott). I enjoy the oatmeal stout and the pale ale. The IPA isn’t bad, but it’s not exactly a hopheads delight, so I never order it. As far as the other two year-rounds, the amber has never been in form when I’ve tried it, and the Sacrilicious Ale, though always up on the chalkboard, is always out. I’m beginning to doubt that they even brew this beer, but the description sounds so tasty that I’ll keep checking back. They are also usually out of at least one other beer, so overall selection is like six house and one guest, which is always a boring macro import. I know that they could do much better than this.
The service is pretty spott
