84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 jmm635 (82) Havertown, Pennsylvania | October 31, 2012 Extensive tap list, focused on local beers at this north side Chicago bar. Three or four different bars, each with their own vibe. Service was very attentive, especially for being very crowded on a Saturday night. I didn’t try any food but I came home smelling like a meat smoker so that can only be a good sign. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 Capa (248) Manama, Bahrain | October 22, 2012 Was the first stop on a pub crawl and just randomly decided to get dinner here instead of later- that proved to be a very wise decision. Had a real nice variety of top notch beers and a couple ciders to boot. Liked the vintage cooler and my buddy actually decided to get a 2006 GI Imperial IPA. While I thought that was a weird beer to age it proved to be fairly tasty and quite an enjoyable experience, if nothing else. I had the brisket sandwich, which was very tasty. Service at the bar and at the table was quick, friendly, and knowledgable. I first thought it was a tiny bar but it opens up quite a bit in the back. A really enjoyable local bar that I would definitely come back to. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 3fourths (1082) Straßgiech, Germany | July 6, 2012 typical neighborhood pub for Chicago, but with a fun variety of local and regional products, strong and light, lagers and ales. all served at proper temperature, which is a rare find even in this city. was pleased to fin the pulled pork BBQ plate well-made. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 justinwmaynard (10) Chicago, Illinois | January 28, 2012 Sheffields is pretty damn awesome, considering they are so close to Wrigley. Always have been a staple in terms of local craft brew bars. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Newk (32) , | January 15, 2012 Sheffield’s three separate bar areas plus a beer garden when its nice outside. There are generally different taps at each bar and all offer up a very good selection of quality beer.
It can get swamped with a lot of bros after cubs night games, but that isn’t often enough to be that big of a deal.
All of the service is very friendly and easy to get a hold of. The food can vary a bit, but their bbq is usually very good and they have their own smoker.
The general vibe is very good and while it can get busy its a fun place to grab a great beer at | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 cratez (151) Toronto, Ontario | September 6, 2011| Updated September 8, 2011 Dropped by for dinner and drinks with my girlfriend in July 2011.
VIBE: resembles your typical drab watering hole with a long wooden bar and various tables dispersed throughout a large room. A huge "CHICAGO" banner hovers over the taps. The music was too loud and the patio was awash with smokers on our visit, but the downmarket atmosphere makes sense since this is a no frills "beer and BBQ" joint. Also, despite my criticisms, the interior is nevertheless clean and approachable and the patrons keep to themselves.
SERVICE: our waitress was friendly and efficient, and she made several good suggestions when a couple of the beers that I ordered were not in stock. They check for I.D. at the door but, thankfully, even the bouncer was jovial. Food came to the table promptly, so no complaints here.
SELECTION: big focus on American micros with an excellent mix of regular, year-round offerings and seasonal rarities. I had a Dogfish Head Festina Peche (bottle), Avery Joe’s Premium American Pilsner (can), and Founders Red’s Rye (draught) and spotted New Belgium Somersault, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, Reissdorf Kölsch, and Avery Karma on the tap list. Nice style variation.
FOOD: my girl and I split the pulled pork sandwich with smoked beans, slaw, and corn bread. Although the barbecue was nowhere near the best that I’ve eaten, it was still tasty, enjoyable, and reasonably priced. Plus I was glad to try vinegar-based, Eastern North Carolina BBQ sauce for the first time.
OVERALL: we’ll happily return to Sheffield’s if we happen to be staying in or walking through the area in the future. This place is a solid choice for a meal and drinks - especially if you’re in the mood for hearty Southern barbecue - and I was pleased to find two beers that I hadn’t sampled before. Cool spot.
| 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 12/20 jrallen34 (271) Chicago, Illinois | March 31, 2011| Updated September 8, 2011 Sheffield’s is a place to go when they have beer events but during regular business hours the tap selections usually don’t necessitate heading over. A fun place to hang with good food but not the top tier in Chicago. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 michael-pollack (100) King of Prussia, Pennsylvania | July 6, 2010| Updated September 8, 2011 Cool bar ambiance. Like a local, neighborhood place, but that can draw lots of people. Very good service. Great selection on tap and in bottles. Nachos were pretty gross. Average prices. I will be back there. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 jsf23mr (15) Chicago, Illinois | May 19, 2010| Updated September 8, 2011 This is a great bar for craft beers. THey had a brewer from Breckenridge, CO when I was there last. Great events promoting craft beer. Detailed draft and bottle menu that changes every month. Highly recommended. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 wedgie9 (31) Nashville, Tennessee | March 4, 2010| Updated September 8, 2011 I know that I happened by this place during a special occasion, and as such, they had some very special taps (Ommegang Rouge, Surly Three, Older Viscosity), but their normal selection is also quite nice. Plenty of American micro-brew selections, including a cask which is very cool. The place to be is the "Beer School" bar in the back. The crowd is varied, and it seems unlikely that most of them are into craft beer, but that is what this place provides, so I am sure I will be there again soon. |
