Totally not my favorite beer bar in Chicago now. Maproom has a better selection and better prices and isn’t in the hell that is Lakeview. I’m finding their selection gets tedious though it is quite good. The staff is good and on the bartenders are knowledgeable (though the waitress aren’t necessarily). I’m becoming less and less tolerant of the people there as I find bars with better crowds.
Original Rating: Probably my favorite beer bar in Chicago in terms of ambiance and service. A little crowded on weekends (to find a bar in Chicago that’s not crowded on weekends is quite a task), but the bartenders I know still take the time to say hey and let me know whats good. Great taps including Sierra Nevada seasonals I haven’t seen anywhere else (Harvest Ale), DFH, Bells, 3F’s. And a good bottle selection which is outlined in this little almanac that would be really handy if I didn’t know so much about beer (ahem...) and normally some pretty good tunes. Sheffield’s may not have the best selection in Chicago but it’s still excellent and easily my favorite place to drop in for a pint.

I’ve been here a few times with my girlfriend and we’ve enjoyed it. Both times I looked online at the beers first to see if there was anything particular I wanted to get, but when arriving, they don’t even know the beer I am asking for or about.
Besides this, service is good, and they have a nice selection of high quality beers. Food is good, too. Seating is eh. Sometimes they are pretty packed so it can be difficult to sit and get food.

Visited 7/25/2010 with masterski.
Got into town on a Sunday afternoon so that may explain how quiet it was here. Regardless of why it was a nice place with lots of room. There are 3 bars and lots of seats.
Ordered a Harpoon Leviathan Bohemian Pils (meh) and took a couple sips of Alex’s Daisy Cutter (very good). I saw a number of interesting beers on the list as well. From what I hear they do some interesting brewery nights like the Goose Island night with 20something taps going.
The waitress was very nice and prompt. The fries were good and reasonably priced (as was the beer). Definitely want to check out the themed beer nights.

Extensive tap list, focused on local beers at this north side Chicago bar. Three or four different bars, each with their own vibe. Service was very attentive, especially for being very crowded on a Saturday night. I didn’t try any food but I came home smelling like a meat smoker so that can only be a good sign.

Was the first stop on a pub crawl and just randomly decided to get dinner here instead of later- that proved to be a very wise decision. Had a real nice variety of top notch beers and a couple ciders to boot. Liked the vintage cooler and my buddy actually decided to get a 2006 GI Imperial IPA. While I thought that was a weird beer to age it proved to be fairly tasty and quite an enjoyable experience, if nothing else. I had the brisket sandwich, which was very tasty. Service at the bar and at the table was quick, friendly, and knowledgable. I first thought it was a tiny bar but it opens up quite a bit in the back. A really enjoyable local bar that I would definitely come back to.

typical neighborhood pub for Chicago, but with a fun variety of local and regional products, strong and light, lagers and ales. all served at proper temperature, which is a rare find even in this city. was pleased to fin the pulled pork BBQ plate well-made.

Sheffields is pretty damn awesome, considering they are so close to Wrigley. Always have been a staple in terms of local craft brew bars.

Sheffield’s three separate bar areas plus a beer garden when its nice outside. There are generally different taps at each bar and all offer up a very good selection of quality beer.
It can get swamped with a lot of bros after cubs night games, but that isn’t often enough to be that big of a deal.
All of the service is very friendly and easy to get a hold of. The food can vary a bit, but their bbq is usually very good and they have their own smoker.
The general vibe is very good and while it can get busy its a fun place to grab a great beer at

Dropped by for dinner and drinks with my girlfriend in July 2011.
VIBE: resembles your typical drab watering hole with a long wooden bar and various tables dispersed throughout a large room. A huge "CHICAGO" banner hovers over the taps. The music was too loud and the patio was awash with smokers on our visit, but the downmarket atmosphere makes sense since this is a no frills "beer and BBQ" joint. Also, despite my criticisms, the interior is nevertheless clean and approachable and the patrons keep to themselves.
SERVICE: our waitress was friendly and efficient, and she made several good suggestions when a couple of the beers that I ordered were not in stock. They check for I.D. at the door but, thankfully, even the bouncer was jovial. Food came to the table promptly, so no complaints here.
SELECTION: big focus on American micros with an excellent mix of regular, year-round offerings and seasonal rarities. I had a Dogfish Head Festina Peche (bottle), Avery Joe’s Premium American Pilsner (can), and Founders Red’s Rye (draught) and spotted New Belgium Somersault, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, Reissdorf Kölsch, and Avery Karma on the tap list. Nice style variation.
FOOD: my girl and I split the pulled pork sandwich with smoked beans, slaw, and corn bread. Although the barbecue was nowhere near the best that I’ve eaten, it was still tasty, enjoyable, and reasonably priced. Plus I was glad to try vinegar-based, Eastern North Carolina BBQ sauce for the first time.
OVERALL: we’ll happily return to Sheffield’s if we happen to be staying in or walking through the area in the future. This place is a solid choice for a meal and drinks - especially if you’re in the mood for hearty Southern barbecue - and I was pleased to find two beers that I hadn’t sampled before. Cool spot.

Sheffield’s is a place to go when they have beer events but during regular business hours the tap selections usually don’t necessitate heading over. A fun place to hang with good food but not the top tier in Chicago.
