Terrible English pub that needs shuttered from the list. A total locals place that wasn’t welcoming to a newcomer, not the crowd or the server who I seemed to be bothering. Decor was dated and cliche English pug. I can get past these things if they have good beer. 18 taps of crap is more like it. Mostly crappy English crap, a couple Australians but nothing remotely interesting. Fail.

This is a cozy little bar in the heart of the Melbourne financial district. They have added a number of taps since I was here back in 2008. There are more local Craft beers to choose from. Sometimes this place can get a little hectic but still interesting place to check out.

Popped in for the first time in years last week. Much the same at first glance but have upped the ante on the taps. Highlights included Hargreaves ESB, 2 Bros Gypsie and Old Speckled Hen. Too many suits wankers at the Mitre (ie people like me) so this is a good alternative for the weary Collins St banker.

A quite place to drink St Arnou beers on a sunday night (until 25 people crashes the place bringing their own beers, baloons, a karaoke machine and a major party.)

This is a nice cosy pub - low ceilings, wood pannelling, etc. Good food, though I found it expensive ($20 for a burger and chips) and the service was shockingly slow as they brought out each person’s meal one by one - took six of us an hourl to get our food. Nice to see some Aussie micro’s on tap, and a few English imports too. Well worth a visit, but be prepared to pay and to wait.

UPDATE (Sep07): Not much happening here these days. They had a Bright beer on tap a while back, and get the occasional interesting guest beer, but James Squire is about as exciting as the beer list gets these days. Still a nice place to drink though.
