A touristy area, relaxed, and that filters into the brewpub. Exceptionally friendly service, everyone seems to acknowledge you are there, and with a smile. Many, many bottles and varieties available, easing the travel burden. Many beers, mostly one-offs, on tap and there were some very good ones.

Easy to find location with street parking. Middle of the afternoon on saturday and the place was very busy. Got a seat at the bar direct in front of chalk board with beer. list. Freindly service and good knowledge of beers. Started with tap list and server (Amy) allowed me to do three samples at a time. I had nine new beers for me and half where not on page. No food. Short trip from Traverse City, but long trip from Cincy. I will return when within 60 miles.

Fantastic place. 15 beers on tap (3 of which are "gourmet pours") plus about a dozen special release large bottles (15 to 25 bucks a bottle - ouch). The first unashamedly beer geek place for days. Really cool vibe too. Do not miss this place if you’re in the area. Only problem is that the sampler is only 5 beers so you need a fair while to do this place justice. Unfortunately we didn’t have that. If I was in the area again, I’d spend a night in Bellaire just to spend the whole evening at Shorts.

A great stop with a ton of shorts beer on tap. Bottles are plentyful as well. Food is nothing special, but service is great and Joe the brewer is often around to answer questions.

Shorts is a nice, cozy brewpub located in the small town of Bellaire (which I wouldn’t call a touristy town based on my brief impressions of it). Most of the patrons were not locals but they seemed to be relative locals (ie somewhere else in Michigan). There were 20 beers on tap, including specialty and gourmet beers. Obviously, there is a wide variety of beers to choose from, although a lot of the styles offered were very similar. While most of what I had was pretty good, I didn’t find anything great which was a little disappointing. The food was good (I split the spinach & artichoke dip plus had a bowl of soup). I liked the atmosphere - it had a very cozy feel with the long bar and the seats by the windows. There also is a small stage, but it obviously wasn’t in use on a Thursday afternoon. Anyway, if you come to Shorts plan to stay awhile to try a bunch of their taps. Also they sell a limited amount of their special bottled items (1/2 of which were sold out when we were there). Definitely a great place to check out in Michigan!

Next to Founders, this is the best beer bar in Michigan. Amazing array of their beers on tap and in bottles. Fast and knowledgeable service in a very artistic and hip space. Not to be missed if you’re in their quiet neck of the wood in Bellaire.

This place fuckin’ rocks! One of my favortie brewpub stylings. Eclectic, but very tasteful decor and design. Awesome big chalkboard of huge brewpub variety. Lots of beers to ogle. The food is simple, but well done, delicious and affordable. The waitress is very nice accommodating to my beer-geek needs. I had a fantastic flight of beer. I’d love to stick around for some music and a few pints of the Huma-luma. A must stop in Northern Michigan.

In a quiet little Michigan village sits one of the most incredible brewpubs in the country. I was expecting a nice place but really exceeded my expectations. A selection of 20 taps pretty much guarantees you will find something you like and many of them sessionable. Incredibly friendly service. I was there at lunch time so wasn’t too crowded - seemed to be extremely popular among the retired crowd in the area but also family friendly and a selection of locally made soft drinks. Food was very good. Love this part of Michigan anyway, but this is a jewel in the crown.

Very cool old brick building with an airy, open interior reminiscent of The Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo. I visited on a Saturday afternoon. The beer was excellent. They had 16 on tap the day I visited and offered 16 completely different bottled beers. Their beers are offered in different sizes, including 5 oz tasters for $1 per sample. The service was great. John, one of the guys who works there, was friendly and showed me around the brew house briefly. The food was decent and the music was even good (they played some Decemberists while I was there). The drive, although long, was scenic and well worth the effort.

Bellaire is a surprisingly small town in a recreational tourist area. The brewery itself is in a modest brick building it does not suggest anything special. However, once you get inside, you glance at their chalkboard and line up of 750’s on the bar and you know you are in a special place. The staff is friend and willing to tell you about what is happening. You can get any number of styles on tap and I admit I probably did not examine the beers as closely as I should have. The tap line up is solid and rival the best few brewpubs I have visited, both in quality and variety. An interesting and unique experience. I picked up some botteld sutff but had to restrain myself as it would be easy to spend a lot. Anyone coming anywhere near this place should make the trip. Maybe it’s not a good critique of the food, but I had some nice soup while drinking.
