Fun stop if your in the area!

We have a cottage in Traverse and we make it a point to head to Shorts for lunch a couple of times a year. Great addition to what appears to be a sleepy little town. I have never been there in the evening but they do have a nice stage for live music. The service has always been wonderful. They food is solid and I like the fact that the place has a taproom feel as opposed to a restaraunt. The beer is good. It’s not up to Founders or Bells standards yet but well worth drive.

Made a detour to check this place out. A little out of the way but worth it. The staff was very acomidating and friendly reminded me of a few old school GD chicks. Food was very good I liked the selection very original. If you want a restaurant go to a restaurant. I went during the day the music was kept at a minimum to backround. Ambiance was very inviting and original. The beer selection was great I belive there was 16 taps. More than enough to chose from. I would say this is worth the stop. Also got to meet Joe ....Great guy!!!!! Many people may not understand the nature of this place but those who do ,do..... Dont change a thing Thank You For Being Something!!!!!!

As previously mentioned, you come here for the beer. But, the food is good too, just dont expect froo-froo menu, but good solid offerings. The beer is awesome. Especially go for the seasonal stuff, the high octane material with cherries for instance. Their IPAs are also excellent. The clientele are great too. We ended up talking with this women who was in her 70s, used to ski jump over roads in Quebec- she has her own beer glass at Shorts. One of those community places that we could use a lot more of in this country. And, a little inside tip, not found on tourist info, is a great place for homemade sausages and other meats is just up the street. I cant remember the name of the place, but am sure the folks at Shorts will know. Shorts also offers growlers to go.

Went to da UP and figured I would hit Short’s on the way down. I walked in the door and the place looked clean, new and inviting. It was fairly busy (around 5pm), but the tall ceilings make it so the crowd noise wasn’t so disruptive. The quality of their beers is excellent, but I’ve only scratched the surface... The service was great but they were busy and apparently in between shift changes so they seemed a bit slowed down due to the amount of orders. Very friendly and smiling staff. I asked some specific questions pertaining to the nature of the hops in the beer and the brewing process and the guy didn’t know so he went to try to find Joe Short who unfortunately was unavailable :( They have way too many beers!!! ( or I don’t have enough money) I only dropped by to pick up a few beers and head back home, I was too tired to throw back a few and relax after having been on the road for 6 hours driving ( I probably would have passed out on my barstool), so I didn’t get the full effect, just a 15-20 minute session of talking and moseying around the bar checking out the artwork and general atmosphere. I will definitely go back again though for the full experience, this place is great, smack in the middle of nowhere right by Traverse City, my favorite MI travel destination.

I’ve been trying to stop here for years and finally made it while picking up a keg for a wedding. Excellent brewpub. Spacious, relaxed space, 20 of their beers on tap, a bunch of bottle, and great sandwiches. I had the roast beef sandwich with a sweet tomato and balsamic vinegar paste, and a lot of beer.
