Nice enough brewery...but you have to give it extra credit just for being north Americaís northernmost brewery...not even in north Fairbanks...but actually a little town north of that called Fox with a population of 385. Probably as far north as the average person drives (especially if you have a rental car...lol!). The dťcor is cool and the people there nice. Although I didnít eat there I asked a few patrons if they liked the food and they said yes...seemed like standard Alaskan pub fare minus the wild game. As for the beer...a very good selection...I had two flights plus a couple of tastings to try them all. I highly recommend RFA...not only for how it tastes...not also for what it stands for (read their website). Although Silver Gulch would probably score lower in any craftbeer state in the lower 48...the reality is that there is no way any true craftbeer traveler can pass up this place when touring Alaska. I recommend a visit...youíll likely be glad you came.

A nice scenic drive outside of Fairbanks into Fox brings you to Silver Gulch. The location doesnít hurt a bit since we still had a 45min wait. Luckily it was warm enough that they opened up the outside seating. Vast selection of beer awaits inside. They also make their own root beer and cream soda. The service was okay, but could have been better. Food was very good, but the portions to price seemed a bit expensive. They had a huge gift shop and growlers to go as well. Definitely worth the visit.

The only reason it doesnít get 100 is because I donít want to detract from the few places Iíve rated as 100. This is one of the best Iíve been to, and one not likely many people will get a chance to visit. The brewer gave us an on the spot tour, which about 10 jovial patrons took onto with us.....the selection amazing, the food amazing, the serverís vocabulary was excellent......Loved it....

Itís a bit of a drive out of the city (especially if youíre not familiar with the area) but a great find! Excellent food and great beer.

The new restaurant is an excellent addition to this brewery. Now they have very good food to serve alongside some very good beers. I had the pistachio crusted baked halibut, and it was phenomenal. The prices are typical Alaska, but not to worry, you are in ALASKA! Beyond the 10 or so house taps, there are numerous Belgian beers to choose from (a selection that would astonish anyone venturing this far from real civilization) as well as other countries. If you are within a couple hundred miles, make the journey here; you will not be disappointed.

Who would have thought that in Fox, Alaska such a place would exist. Let me assure you it is well worth the trip. The exterior is very decieving. This old building has been totally renivated into a beer and food mecca. Not only are their own beers pretty good, their imported bottle selection is even more impressive. Service was great, food was great and creative. If your within 100 miles make this a destination.

Update 7/27/2012. They added a restaurant and gift shop since I last stopped by. Typical brewery gift shop and you actually get growlers filled via the gift shop staff. All growler fills are $10 regardless of the style, even the Imperial stout, great deal. They have 4 core varieties in 6 packs for sale as well as cases (24-12oz bottles) of non-labeled specialty beers but you have to buy a whole case. The restaurant is really nice inside, very cool bar/lounge area and nice, new, clean dinner seating area. Good price on pints and a huge bottle selection, mostly imports. Staff is strange but itís Fairbanks/Fox, what can you say. Food is way overpriced for most things, and not that great. Iíd come back and hang out in the bar then take some growlers to go.
Out in Fox Alaska, about 10 miles outside of Fairbanks. My wife and I happened to stop by for a tasting a couple of years ago. One of the brewers was very nice and showed us around the brewery. The beer was great especially the Fairbanks Lager. The beer is available throughout the state on tap and in 6 packs but the 6 packs are pretty expensive.

July 2005: Did a drive by, but theyíre only open for visitors for a few hours on Fridays. They make pretty decent beers that are pretty available around Fairbanks.

I stopped by on one of their brewery open houses. They were actually brewing their pilsner while we were in the building. We got there right at the beginning, but the place gets a bit crowded by the end. The beer is all solid and they had several beers pouring for free at the brewery that I could not find anywhere else during my trip through Alaska. The old Roadhouse it occupies makes for kind of a cool experience.
