68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20
Visited at 9am on a Thursday, so it was obviously very quiet. Had my large mixed grill, which was good. Ten different cask ales on which is always a joy to see. Cheap food, clean, bright. Nice JDW. This gets a rating of 68 on the day, but I should say that the ale festival was on at the time, which has a big impact on the rating.

One of my favourite Wetherspoons pubs. Still has that old school feel and clearly hasn’t been renovated in a while. Selection varies quite a bit - it’s usually quite good although the last few times I’ve been in it’s been poor (London Pride, a couple of Greene King beers and that’s about it). Having said that it was great during the most recent real ale festival. Never had a duff pint here and well priced as you’d expect.

One of my favouite Spoons. A large spawling interior in a big L shape. Service here is always snappy and the cask condition beers are always served properly cool and in good condition. If the Craft doesn’t burn up too much of my time then I often pop in here.

A standard ‘spoons – large, open plan with ranks of tables, each numbered with their little brass disc screwed to the surface. We visited during their international festival and the beer choice was excellent (hence my high score on selection, although this may not be typical). There was a cheerful atmosphere too and all the beers were in good condition. I noticed that the prices were slightly higher than is normal in Wetherspoon pubs – possibly because of the area or possibly because of the festival, which had brought in some hard to find treats.

A short walk down the hill from Farringdon Tube Station and directly across Farringdon Road. This is a bright Wetherspoon pub with plenty of ground floor space. The decor is fairly ordinary and familiar for this chain, but comfortable enough. Ales on two rows of pumps.

One of the better JDW chain pubs in the area. Opposite Farringdon tube/rail station so is usually busy and that helps beer turnover. Usually 3-4 guest ales.

Visited a few times over the years, most recently on the first Saturday in August ’12 only because I didn’t realise the Craft opened at 12 and I needed to kill half an hour!
Trad Spoons set up - functional seating, boring carpet, a few punters in split between career drinkers and tourists having breakfast.
Picked off a couple of ticks amongst the bog standard Spoons range - Something from Itchen valley from memory.
Both in decent nick.
Service was fine but there’s little reason to come here to be perfectly blunt!

Visited on my way from Craft Clerkenwell to Farringdon station. Quite big English pub with a lot of visitors in the evening. 8-10 casks. I found new ticks, but the beers were not amazing.

A classic Spoons: games, tons of lighting and seating, cheap booze, TVs, carpets and a very distinct clientele. Around 10 casks (perhaps I miscounted as Chris cites 12) with a good festival range on my visit. The beer was in alright condition. The atmosphere here is lousy. Whatever.

Visited on 4 September 2012. A fairly standard Wetherspoons in the "traditional" vein. The way it is completely filled with seating, mainly laid out in a fairly regular pattern detracts from the pubbiness of the place. 12 handpumps, although generally not all are in use. Expect Greene King IPA & Abbot, Fullers London Pride and 3 or 4 guests - Weltons Googly, Dorset Durdle Door & Itchen Valley Hambledon Bitter on this occasion. One pump is devoted to a changing cider. Normal Spoons range of kegs & bottles - that is, nothing very interesting. "Avaialble soon" count on this visit - 1. Service was prompt, although I was in at a quiet time of day so, in normal Spoons fashion, don’t take that for granted. Gets busy with the after work crowd during the week. Worth a glance if you are in the area - I often pop in looking for a quick scoop on the way to the Craft, and I usually get one.
