Wow, talk about a basic pub, but not in a good way. Completely devoid of any atmosphere, this place really gives a new meaning to the word bare, if you like minimalism that is. Decided to have a pint of Blackjack and regretted it, tasted awful. Not tempted to sample any others, so I got up and left. Not my kind of boozer!

Visited on Sunday evening in July 2015. Place has been extensively refurbished and all traces of the old pub have gone. Clean, bright interior and new home to Blackjack beers plus guests. Good cask and keg range. Well kept. Staff good and efficient. It used to be the place to visit in Manchester, it’s back on the list as worthy of a stop

This used to be a traditional pub with a high emphasis on real ales, however in late 2014 the pub underwent a transformation to give it an update. It no longer has the worn furniture that gave it a certain amount of charm, now sporting a somewhat sterile, but modern and fresh look, partly keeping the traditional pub style most will know this pub for. The real ales are still very much a part of this pub, although there’s a couple of hand pumps less than there used to be, however the selection is still pretty good with several guests on offer alongside the staple Facers ales which have been part of the fabric of this pub for a while.

Have visited this pub several times, at my first visit to the NWAF, I stayed at this pub :-).. I have mixed feelings of this place, at first it was very good, then it was a bit down, but at my last visit ( january 2013 ) I think it has emproved a bit again. They have always quit a lot of beers on, during the time of NWAF, many from smaller micros in the north. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. ( My figures shows the revue from my 2013 visit. )

Retro styled pub in the northern quarter of central Manchester. Quite cozy place to stay for some decent cask ales. There are two house beers from Facers and some guest ales – a few from Welsh brewery Conwy were on at our stay. They had their own beer festival in late January. Medium sized with good music, football, pool table and polite service. Should not be missed on a pub crawl in in Manchester (visited, 21.01.2013).

8 casks. Friendly staff. Good value - £2.50/pint. Nice easy going rock music on the jukebox and 50p for a game of pool. Nice.

Having visited here regularly since the 90’s, it does seem to be going downhill a bit in the last few years, although the cask choice is still excellent.
