A basic pub close to the city centre but in a bit of a backwater. There are two rooms with the bar down the middle. Itís a localsí sort of place and was very noisy (but set to get noisier as there was a karaoke session about to start). The beer range was small but good. I donít know if they do meals but there were barn eggs for sale alongside the pickled eggs, cheese / ham rolls and pork pies.

Yet another pub by the river Derwent, this time a few minutesí walk from Exeter Arms in the direction of the railway station. Rather shabby surroundings, but it should be nice at the patio by the riverside in the summer. Inside there are three rooms; a lounge, the main room and a one for pool and billiard tables. A community pub with a modern outlook and a long bar serving at least eight cask ales, five of them operating at our visit. The housebeer Smithy is made by Derby brewing, A quite relaxing place with karaoke on Sundays, mostly Elvis and Sinatra tunes. (Sunday pub crawl in Derby 22.02.2015).

This place might be under different ownership now. If you can get past the quirky hours (mostly centered around the people coming off shifts and football matches) and the location (tucked away in an industrial part of Derby) it is worth sticking your head in. Located about halfway between the Exeter Arms and the railway station the beer choices here are simple but to the point.
On the occasions I have visited there were three regular taps as well as a handful of rotating casks. Nothing here is exceptionally rare or unique but they did seem to try for a local flavor. Food can be ordered although Iíve never done so. I would not go out of my way to visit but it could be a nice diversion when heading other places.

A good selection of real ales in a good condition. What can you ask for more (2010).

Barman was really surly and rude. Otherwise good selection and very well kept.

An old fashioned boozer with a good range of ales and good service. Not particulatrly appealing, and not the sort of place Iíd choose to hang around for long.

Didnít spend a lot of time inside this pub as the beer festival I attended was out the back, but there appeared to be a good range of pumpclips and staff jolly decent. Not in the most desireable of areas but not too far from the town and close to the river.

Again, a very old building, just by the River, about halfway between The Alexandra Hotel and Exeter Arms (5-min each). Not particularly nice location, by a big industrial parking, but the river is on the other side. Small and effective stop with around 8 casks offering a varied range. A most worthy stop, very welcoming, but not in the cityís very top.

Another of Derby impressive old pubs. Arc shaped stone building which stands out in the now sparse former market area.
Very busy at lunchtimes and although I didnít try the food it did smell very good!
Good ale selection and a couple of rooms to choose from.
