Visited 2009 and 07/2014. Stuttgart’s second dated, equally claustrophobic 1st floor (=US 2nd floor) brewpub place starting to catch up with the times thanks to organising initiatory brewing workshops and pairing with CAST’s new blood in Benztown to try their hands at an IPA. Solid Schwarz and varying basic range. Bar service is efficient enough, but largely out of tune with the newer beer scene, say after 1992, while the owner/manager was very nice as soon as we showed an interest, giving us an impromptu full tour of their Being John Malkovich Brauhinterzimmer all tucked away on the 1st floor. "Developing".

Decent place in Stuttgart. It is bigger inside than I initially thought. The selection is limited but the beer is decent enough. The food was good and the service was better. Good place to visit if you are near the downtown area.

A nice enough eatery. While in the center in a touristy area, feels very blue-collar during weekday lunch hour even if the large area is mostly devoid of customers. Fast and nice service. The food is rather plain, the schnitzel thin on meat and fat on breading, the ham has a lot of gristle and fat, but the sauerkraut was delicious. Helles, weizen and schwarz of their own on tap. Only tried the schwarz which was good. Would go back definitely though.

Visited in may 2013 in the late afternoon. Quite close to the main drag of Stuttgart. Nice wooden belle epoque interior. Sparsely crowded. Quite quick and friendly efficient staff. Decent menu card with various information about brewing, historical facts etc. 3.50 Euro for a 40cl Helles, 3.80 Euro for a Schwarzbier. Only paid 4 Euros for both for some reason.

Visited Sophies in Nov ’09 on a Saturday night, fairly lateish around 23.30. Had planned this as we knew it was a late opener. Place was fairly busy but not packed and we bagged a table for 6 or so of us. Decor was a bit naff, wooden, checked table cloths, coppers on show. Service pretty decent, beers mediocre but drinkable. Wasn’t too enamoured with Stuttgart as a drinking city in terms of beer quaility/variety so I guess Sophies was as good as anywhere. Cracking kebab place opposite which actually made the bread from fresh dough whilst you waited - off topic perhaps but worth going for that alone !!!

Fun place, great vibe, young crowd having lots of fun and servers who keep up without a problem. The beers were just OK, food was tasty. Worth a look.

I liked this place, the wife not so much: It is reached by a set of stairs from the street, next to a Kebab joint. The area is just above seedy, not rough, but appears to be getting that way, safe but interesting! Anyway, at the top of the stairs the place opens up into one huge room with an island bar in the centre. We sat in the far corner from the stairway, in a cheap looking ’Band Stand’ which had bird cages hanging off it, complete with plastic birds inside. I thought the whole place was different and fun, my wife thought it a semi-Turkish style shabby, unelegant, hotch-potch of a place. Lets just say it is a strange set-up. The brewing equipment is close to the toilets (make of that what you wish) and they claimed it was still in use, it wasn’t on the September Sunday evening we visited (2009). I had two different beers and they were OK, nothing special and not reviewed. We snacked on a flammkuchen, which was just what we needed and was very nice.

Easy to find, at the end of the central walking street. Are at the 2nd floor, it was lot of people on a wedneday night. Had Flammcuchen to eat, a french pizza, ok... Tried the Weinahtsbier, not a strong and tasty as I’m used to from the norwegian chrismasbeers, but ok. Good, fast and helpful service.
