A wonderful selection of beers, and great atmosphere. Even though the number of drafts is only six, I still often find that there are a higher number of really good drafts here than at bars with 20-30 drafts! The bottles are actually over a hundred rather than 60! I am happy to say this place is a local to me.

Flat out amazing beer selection. Nice looking food, but I didn’t eat any. Service was top notch. Great atmosphere is ecclectic without being pretentious. I sat in a leather throne. Beer (Fantome Strange Ghost) was served at right temp in an excellent, large bowled, nice quality wine glass. Prices certainly seemed fair (although the sticker shock always gets you when you’re looking at lists of Cantillon, etc). Of the places I’ve been, I’d put this behind only Toronado, and that only because I love the atmosphere of Toronado that extra little bit.

The Holy Grail of beer bars and lord knows, I’ve been to many. Think going to Belgium without having to fly there. Great bottle selection and 5 or so handles with a cask usually tapped. A cheese, meat or chocolate plate is always available and sometimes, pate. Get a sampler of your choice of 4 for $10. Must go to experience. Joe is the owner and he is very knowledgeable and friendly. Seems like Joe has been leaning towards addimg more micros, so it’s not all imports. A must stop if in the state of NY. They have a nice selection of wine and sake as well.

What people said. Awesome cozy place with a truly friendly atmosphere where the locals are sociable and were all happy to see a montrealer. Unreal beer list for america. I had some beers I certainly didn’t expect to find on this side of the atlantic like cantillon loerik, de ranke guldenberg, de proef flemish primitive. They do carry 10 cantillon if not 11. I was a bit unlucky with the taps though, among the 5 taps were éphémère apple that i get locally, vapeur cochonne and hog heaven which I’m not a fan of. Too bad a few beers on the menu were out of stock.

A tremendous ode to beer. Some of the most interesting choices I’ve seen and the best trained staff around. A must see if in NYC.

The ambiance is simple to the point and comfortable. The service very knowledgable and friendly (and pretty effeicient too - despite the place being packed I never had to wait and never felt rushed in chatting with the barmen). The selection is fantastic for Belgian style enthusiasts. They focus on that and do it very well. Tap selection was perhaps not astounding (with the exception of Fantome on tap) but the bottle menu clearly made up for it. Although the first couple of rare beers ordered were out of stock, the majority were available including some real discoveries. The cheese plate was of a very generous size for the cost and paired well with the beers, though the beers are truly what it’s all about. ’Essential’ does not begin to do this place justice!

Simply the best beer bar in NY! The small size and relative isolation of Spuyten make it really a niche bar. They have 6 taps and a cask and an incredible bottle selection of hard to find beers from around the world. The bartenders are friendly and very knowledgable about their beers. Spuyten serves light fare including meat and cheese plates, olives and some sweets, all of which serve to compliment the beer. If you’re in NYC and miss this one, you should not forgive yourself!

Reminds me of Smokeless Joe’s in Toronto - long and narrow; half a dozen taps; great bottled list. Staff could talk the talk - surprisingly rare for a beer bar. Cheese selection was solid. the garden in the back looked cool, too. One of the best.

Very much recommended, huge, huge! selection of beer worldwide. Especially Belgian selections, I really liked how everything was listed by country and style. Very enjoyable place, has a very nice outdoor area, quiet conversation. One of my all-time favorites. Staff is very helpful, efficient, knowledgeable. Wonderful experience.

I am lucky enough to live just a few blocks from one of the best bars in the U.S. This place is a regular hang out for me and my friends. The taps/cask are constantly changing. The people whom work here know what they are doing and arent snobby. A real great neighborhood bar that attracts people from all over the world. In typical Brooklyn style it is easily missed with no sign and looks as someone else on here put it, "like an antique store" from the outside. This bar has turned me on to so many new beers and has transformed my palette! Thank you Spuyten Duyvel!
P.S. if you are in the neighborhood, step across the street to Fette Sau, same owners, for an AMAZING whiskey collection and some of the best bbq you have ever had. CHEERS!
