Go during the day with nice weather. Sit outside. Thank me later. Staff is sometimes either nice or standoffish. Food is limited but good even tho fette sau is across the way.

Spuyten Duyvil is located in Brooklyn on Metropolitan Ave across from Fette Sau. The red exterior doesn’t have an obvious signage.
The interior is dimly lit with the bar running along the right side, and small tables opposite. Red ceiling with large hanging lights. Odd decor on the walls including an old bicycle. There are chalkboards behind the wall listing the beers that are available.
The bar has 6 or 8 beers on draught with an emphasis on Belgians, as well as some regional breweries like Two Roads. The bottled selection consists of over 50 selections, again heavier on Belgian styles. Many rarities and vintage ales as well.
Service on a relatively busy weeknight was decent. My colleague and I had a small table and were pretty much left to ourselves to order at the bar. The bartender seemed knowledgeable about the available beers.
We did not have any food on our visit.
Overall this bar wasn’t a revelation or anything but had a nice laid back if hipster atmosphere. I wouldn’t put it at the top of the list but would visit again if in Brooklyn.

When I visited: Late September 2013.
What I had: an imperial IPA on tap and a glass of sauvignon blanc for the lady.
What I liked: Despite the small size of the bar we were able to grab seats right away.
What I disliked: In keeping with the obnoxious service and atmosphere there’s no sign for this place so initially we walked right past it. Once inside we couldn’t see the draught or food menus so we had to ask the twit working the bar, who was more interested in talking down to us than actually explaining what was available. We reluctantly ordered one drink, passed on the food options (most of which we couldn’t pronounce), and rushed over to Barcade, where the night was salvaged. IMHO the suffocating pretension and sleazy hipster vibe of Spuyten embody everything that craft beer is NOT about, and you couldn’t pay me to come back here. Avoid.

Great beer bar in Brooklyn. High quality selection with a few surprises. Nice shaded outdoor area outback.

Walked across the bridge, had some fresh pizza and ice cream, and then walked over to enjoy some beers. The list was impressive although not as crazy as I thought it would be; was also pricey. However like the eclectic/hipster atmosphere (probably because it was mostly empty), service was top notch, and enjoyed relaxing and enjoying some beer.

Visited in May 2012.
First off, the name and the address aren’t on this place anywhere. Actually, the only indication of the address is on the mail box. Second, the prices are out of control. $60 for a Vigeronne 750... But that is all (mostly) forgiven by the fact that the selection is awesome and so is the area in the back. The bar is small and I could see this place getting packed during peak hours but outside, under the large trees, there is plenty of room. Cool place and I would return if in the area if I wanted something the other bars in the area didn’t stock.

Wonderful, original, eclectic craftbeer bar that is a destination in and of itself. I highly recommend a stop here when visiting Brooklyn craftbars...but definitely worth a special trip alone. I gave them a 14 out of 15 for selection...not for quantity (this isn’t a Yard House) but for quality...for unusual and hard to find selections. The decor is very much like an antique store...maybe even an oldtime hardware store. There is a really nice courtyard out back too. The food choices are great. They include cheeses...meats...pickles...olives, and the like...all of the highest quality (if you need something more substantial...go to Fette Sau nearby for amazing BBQ). The place is filled with regulars (locals who realize how lucky they are to have a place like this in their neighborhood) as well as craftbeer explorers like myself who will read about a place like this and search it out. I recommend you do the same!
