Lovely pub. Multiple WORKING fireplaces, lots of dynamic seating, simple but decent beer range, good prices, efficient staff. They still have the Bass on gravity, although I opted for one of the other real ales. I had a great time in this pub; it was one of the highlights of Bath for me.

The best cask ale bar in Bath, a short walk from the tourist area, this solid looking pub is a no nonsense drinking house. If you want soft arm chairs and posh tables and carpet up to your knees, this is the wrong place. If you want a pint sat on a wooden bench surrounded by history and other people, this is the place for you! Abbey Ales are wonderful examples of the best England can offer in traditional beers, this is more or less their Brewery Tap. Their website explains everything better than I can, but ’The small room’ is the best bar area in my opinion, but you go and visit, make up your own mind.

Excellent ’proper’ pub

Very nice atmosphere, this place is sweet. The beer list isn’t the best in town, but the gravity pour Bass was something nice. Well worth a visit for the interior.

Beautiful old-fashioned pub a bit off the tourist-trails; cozy & quiet; mainly the local Abbey Ales are served plus a - IMHO - boring Bass from the gravity cask. Nice place for a nice evening!

Probably the most characterful interior in all of Bath, which is saying a lot. A must-visit if you are into that sort of thing. Feels like a sacred spot. Quiet, dark, cozy, small. Feel like time stands still here, making a return to the outside world seem disorienting. Bass ale on gravity cask--very good. I think they are an Abbey Ale pub.

Beautiful old pub a short trot out of town, lots of nooks and crannies, very quiet though. Go for the history of it and to have a nose around.

Pub with the type of unspoilt interior that is rarely seen in England nowadays. Decent if not wide selection of ales, but this isn’t what you come here for. Atmosphere was convivial and service friendly. Cornish beer festival in July is great fun. Well worth a visit.

One of the oldest pubs in Bath. I liked the traditional atmosphere. Good cask ales are served. The guest ones were new ales to me. Don´t miss that place if you ever go to visit Bath (10.6.2006).

Excellent place in Bath, typical warm pub atmosphere found in a lot of places outside of the large cities. A nice selection of cask ales and a very friendly bar staff.
