Ahh Stubbieís. Located in downtown Gainesville, this is the original beer bar in town. Actually two separate bars: Steinís, a German beerhall and Stubbieís, an Australian (?) pub. Ambiance is nice but a bit cramped when crowded. Service is good, bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. Selection is centered around European beers, especially German, but their bottle list is extensive. Food is German themed, and is probably the best German food in town, if only. My only reservation to this place is prices, which are pretty high relative to some of the other near by stops. Still, a great, chill place to check out.

Neat litt spot here in Gainesville. Lots of rotating taps and something like 500 bottles. Guge selection of Belgian brews. Service was okay, and the food was decent. Plan on going back here again soon.

Huge selection of beers, a Wall of Fame, board games to play, and a cool staff- I always have to go every time I go back to Gainesville to visit.

Found this new place on a recent visit to Gainesville. Itís definitely a college town bar, but itís nice. One side is traditional german decor, the other side is a kind of peyote rush. The beer list is really solid, the service was decent. The food is almost all meat--very german--but I appreciated that they have a veggie brat, and it was really good. Wish this had been here when I lived here.

I used to love coming here. It has expanded since I left; they used to have a very limited draft selection, I think they only had bottles initially though. It is a different scene when compared to a standard bar/club in Gainesville, geared more toward graduate students etc. There is a very nice selection and the people there were always friendly. If you are in the Ville check it out.

The Good: A nice selection of sausages and such. A pretty interesting selection of taps that rotates frequently, and a long bottle list that is not useful for me but probably pretty good for other people. The crowd is pretty chill, I guess, mostly grad students.
The Bad: Pretty much everything is served in a pint glass, and you cannot get halves like at Alcove or Tall Paulís. The prices are pretty high, so this is detrimental; I donít have any interest in paying 8 dollars for a pint glass of Rogue Imperial Stout. The servers seem moderately clued in, although the few times Iíve gone with random friends theyíve steered people to a core group of three or four beers including the standard Lindemans. Lots of people getting shitfaced.
The Ugly: The majority of the bar itself. I hate the decoration here, tacky as all hell.

Stubbieís the top bar in Gainesville for craft beer though Iíve heard Alcove can be pretty decent but small and cramped. Stubbies really brought craft beer to Gville and this place has been here a good while. Tap list is very nice, usually about 30 taps going and a very large bottle list. As a giant beer whore, I didnít find something ultra interesting on the bottle list but you may find a few random gems on there if you look carefully. Expect Swamp Head and Cigar City on tap here as well as a static tap of Weihenstapher it seems like. Stubbies is German themed after all and the German biergarden snack food is excellent! Expect giant pours of Weihenstephaner in correct glassware but also look out for random local stuff and even the occasional sour on tap. Really nice place- my favorite in Gainesville by a mile. Much more chill and not really a college bar I would say.

They have shirts for sale in one room and walls that are painted like a biergarden in the other. Their prices seem to be a bit above everybody else in the area. The selection is good. They have a lot of taps, but they have some really random uninteresting beers on those taps. This place probably was an oasis of good beer in a bad beer bar town, but now there are more options.

Iíd shy away from here when schoolís in and itís a weekend night. Otherwise, this is a decent place to find a fairly wide variety of beers both on tap and in the bottle.

Great place. Selection is expansive and reasonably priced. Food is German (and awesome). Staff were attentive and friendly. Gets a little crowded, so show up early if you want a seat.
