I really enjoyed Sudwerk. When we visited the Davis store our service wasn’t great. After we finished our samplers we were never given the chance to order a beer from the wait staff. However the food was amazing. I enjoyed the flat iron steak with blue cheese on top. But I thought they had a pretty diverse menu. And Sudwerks beers are all very good especially the Doppelbock when it is in season!
I have also visited the restaurant in Folsom and had much better service there.

Stopped in on the way to Santa Rosa. Building looks indistinct from the outside other than the sign by the road. Patio looked nice. Large bar inside with table seating around. Bar service was fine. Only tried the onion rings which weren’t bad. Ten taps with 5 year-round and 5 seasonal offerings. Beers were mostly average to above average. Worth a stop if you’re passing by or in the area.

Crap service. One person serving. One pouring beer occasionally and the other waitress’s walking around showing there kit and doing nothing.
Only moderate flavors in the food.
Beers were ok.

Been here often on the way to and from Sacto, Tahoe, and home while on the 80.
Food is always good same as the beer. Very solid place with nice friendly knowlegable staff, place is always clean. Last night stopped and had the calamari appetizer along with a White IPA, both excellent. Kind of hard to find, use your GPS.

I have been going to this place for many years and just realized I have never rated it. There is a large horseshoe bar and around 10 taps. Also lots of tables for food service. The barkeeps are generally friendly and helpful. There is a larger range of beers than in the past, not just German styles. The food is pretty good for a bar setting.

At the bar for a couple beers. The taster of five (you pick ’em) and a pint of the dry stout. The stout was good and 3/5 of the tasters were really enjoyable with the other two being average or so. The service was great. They had ten of their own on tap. The value was average. Worth a stop on I-80 to sample a few lagers that aren’t done very often in the US.

Visited on the way up to Sacramento for New Years.
Getting here was interesting. The GPS took us around the other side of the "parking lot" which is a dirt lot with massive holes (big enough that I was worried about high centering the car) everywhere that were full of rain water. After manuvering that carefully we parked in the portion of the lot that was paved, underneath the bridge.
Inside is pretty big with two bars and some brewing equipment in the middle of the room. I have to say, I wasnt expecting much after having tried the imperial pils anniversary beer a year earlier but their beer was pretty good, at least the German styles were (which is most of the beer). I was very impressed with almost everything except the IPA and the bock.
Service was very friendly, even if we were only stopping for a quick flight on the way somewhere else. Didnt eat or look at a menu even but wouldnt mind stopping for a pint of pils and a sandwich if I was passing through again.

Good beer and descent food. Not always the best service when sitting in the restaurant, but I generally go there for the beer! Some of their seasonal beers can be great.

I like this place but have had a few problems. Ambiance is OK at best. Service is spotty. Waited 30 minutes for a waiter once and eventually got up and left. Usually I have to waive someone down to get a check. Selection isn’t very good, as they only serve Sudwerk. Food is ok to good. The main reason I go is for the beer... in big ass liter mugs. I feel Sudwerk does an excellent job of making to style German beer.

Between moving to Davis in ’04 and now in ’09, Sudwerk has gone backwards for me at a constant rate. For instance, changing the food selection from an all German bonanza (rare and authentic) to the typical Applebees/TGI Fridays/etc. offerings took the cake in ’06. Now, they’re pairing some good, authentic German beer with typical American food. It doesn’t quite fit somehow.
Also, to have your "top rated beers" (see above) not even be served at the place because they are renting out their equipment to better beer makers than themselves says something. ReaperAle just rents their brew-building next door and makes better stuff! How about look over somebody’s shoulder and get a clue.
The Marzen and Dopplebock are good highlights, but there is nothing substantial about the beer in general, unless you’re comparing them to the big three... in which case, they’re awesome. If you’re a person who’s progressed past the "Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is the best beer on the planet" phase of your life (this comes after the "Natty Ice is the best beer on the planet" phase for you Freshman 15ers), you’ll probably tolerate the beer.
The ambiance is rather enjoyable with a bunch of friends, but the wait staff is spotty. When it’s slow, the service is good, but when it’s busy, the same amount of people are manning things and you’d better have your hazard triangles handy or your iPhone and a few good apps, such as the shotgun or T-Pain autotune.
Some joking aside, it’s habit for most Davisonians to revert back to Sudwerk as the place to get "the best beer in Davis". The truth is, Burgers & Brew and the Grad have far, far superior offerings now, though they aren’t breweries.
