If you’re staying in west side of Ipanema, this is a handy and well stocked supermarket, with great beer.

Not exactly designed to be a beer mecca. Zona Sul is a supermarket chain that decided recently to get a few decent beers in stock. There are dozens of Zona Sul’s all over the city each with varying selection sizes. The beer selection is never great and the service is pretty terrible. However I’m a regular visitor to Zona Sul for a couple of reasons. Some interesting beers pop up sometimes and the prices are generally lower than most places. Not at all my fav place in Rio but if you’re a tourist only in town for a couple of days, you’ll never be far away from one and it’s worth a quick look.
