The place is ok to go and have a drink but letís get this straight - the beer is pretty rough. Come here to have a drink downtown and get your tick on, other than that, there are better places to have a good beer in Victoria than here.

Went here for dinner with Mr. Todd Bailey and family. We had a good time. They have a separate room where families are welcome and while at first I was disappointed not to be in the good-looking main room with the nice brick walls, superb paintings worthy of an art gallery and the regular crowd, the kids ended up taking good advantage of our isolation. We had a few beers, the dark ones and hoppy ones all being pretty good examples. Under the circumstances of being in a separate room, the service remained pretty adequate. Food was satisfactory, not too pricey for Victoria and included varied entrťes rather than simple pub grub, for instance they had a few asian plates. It is a restaurant and a brewpub and if you have good company to go along with that, it can go a long way.

Feels like a old fashion pub but can get busy sometimes. Great beer and regular pub food at a descent price

Dropped by on a late Sunday afternoon. A very quiet, relaxed joint at this hour. Friendly, laid back staff. They advise a bluegrass band is on later, about 8:30. first impressions are good. Oh...did I mention that they have WiFi and it actually works?
Guess I should add something about the beer. First off, I like that they have 10 oz beers, as well as a larger size. Some decent in-house taps, nothing spectacular, but respectable. Their signature brew seems to be the Extra IPA, which can stand itís own ground among the more modern highly hopped IPAís.

Great service and cool atmosphere but the beers were nothing too special. Closer to port than most of the other brewpubs but not as good.

Old architecture and an old feel to the place. Service was pretty good, the food was alright too albeit overpriced I thought for breakfast ($32 for two). Wide range of own beers on tap. Really nothing to write home about, I may go back if Iím in the area again and try the beers.

Steeped in history, this place walks a fine line between charming and schlocky. Having stayed here, as a boutique hotel, it falls short. The rooms feel quite dated, the artwork on the walls seems like it was done by friends and family members, the amenities were lacking (no gym). As a brewpub, I thought it was great. Decent brews, upscale pubfare (lamb burger and duck pizza were both delicious), excellent service. Iíll base my rating on the brewpub.

I always visit Swans when visiting Victoria. The atmosphere is great, very relaxing and enjoyable. Usually there is live music in the evenings. Buckerfield offers a good variety of beers most of which I have tried. Nothing really memorable (considering the high quality of brews that the NW has to offer). Very good bitter. Prices are high, but thatís to be expected. Good place to go for a session while in BC.

Buckerfields brewing was a neat place to visit on the top of the place was a hotel Swans and this was a neat old building. We stopped at the bar and had a few of the beers this was the night before the GCBF. We had a Coconut porter which could have used more of the famed Coconut but was still tasty never less. The Swans Oatmeal Stout was pure heaven and I was hoping to remember to bring some back to the states. The service was great and they talked the beers up quite a bit. The also told us of several other places to visit while in town that also had great beers. I think this was one of the best places to visit the Raspberry ale to finish off the night was actually very good and fruit. This is a must stop in Victoria.
