82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Elwood (97) Leesburg, Virginia | October 23, 2011 While there definitely aren’t 300-400 bottles in this place, it does have a pretty good selection for the beach and the ability to get a lot of singles. The owners do regular tastings and will bring out fun cellared stuff from time to time. The staff are super helpful and pretty knowledgeable about both beer and wine. Definitely your best stop if you are in the area. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 NachlamSie (447) Tennessee | September 1, 2011 I was walking along the main road in Surf City and happened to see the back of this building. I figured I’d go in and my low expectations were exceeded. Most everything is available in singles and the selection is fairly extensive, but nothing rare or crazy is featured. I couldn’t even get some Schlenkerla or any Lambics. Still, for the area, it’s quite impressive. And the claim of 300-400 beers is way off. There is no way they have any more than half that. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 misterbeer (5) greenwood, Indiana | June 14, 2010 A nice little find on topsail island.Staff was very helpful would break up just about any six pack to BYO.Slection was not huge but big enough for an out of towner like me.A definite stop if your in the area | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 omnidan (2) North Carolina | February 28, 2010 As a long time customer of Lighthouse and now Swingbridge, I can honestly say that I thank God daily the I have this great of a selection so close to the beach. While it was sad to see Pete go, the Horners have really picked up where he left off. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. Prices were going up during Pete’s ownership for the same reason they have gone up since his departure: federal and state alcohol tax increases have made beer more expensive. I can’t say enough good things about this store! | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | October 25, 2009 Pete sold this place in July 2009, it’s now called Swingbridge Beer & Wine. New owners are Jeff, Chris & Tim. Same phone number: 910-328-5005. New website under construction: www.swingbridgebeerandwine.com. Prices are higher than under Pete’s ownership, but selection is still very good, and staff is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 Forch (1) New Jersey | June 2, 2008 Great things do come in small packages….You need to go inside to see what I mean. Once inside you will be greeted by an extremely knowledgeably staff…(Pete or his wife) They will make you feel at home and will answer any and all question you have. Lighthouse is your personal beer and wine steward with a phenomenal selection. No need to bring supplies from home any more while at the beach. AAA+++

| 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 hopscotch (198) Vero Beach , Florida | August 31, 2006 Pete and his wife are very friendly and very helpful. They have a nice store with lots of N.C. craft brews among others. They carry all the Rochefort’s and other Belgians. Some beers are sold as singles; others in four and six packs. Pete was nice enough to break several six’s for me. A wonderful bottle shop near a beautiful beach. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 kujo9 (32) North Ridgeville, Ohio | July 9, 2006 A little slice of beer heaven in a beach setting! Located next to/behind a Wings Beach Store and Dairy Queen, it is on the corner of Rte 50 and N. New River Rd. and is very accessible coming from the island or the mainland. Nice selection of beers from Avery to Unibroue with a little something for everyone in between. They also have macro swill for anyone that wants a decent bottle of wine along with a their beer. About 20’ worth of cooler space with one for singles and the rest for sixers or 12/cases. I visited them 3 times in my stay in Surf City and would go back again if we go back (which we probably will). Very friendly and beer knowledgeable staff. |
