Probably my favourite place that we visited in Oostende on Saturday 9th June 2012. Ok so the choice is only 30-35 beers, but they are well chosen and many of the Trappists are available, in fact one impressive point to mention is the prices all of the Trappists are € 3.50 Cents across the board so Orval, Westmalle, Rochefort 6, 8, & 10 etc are all the same price, the only one that was more was the La Trappe Quadruple which was still good value at €4. The landlord (chap serving) was really friendly and seemed quite touched when I commented on how much we had enjoyed our beer and time in his bar. This bar is a great place for people watching, it is a small typical Belgian bar, quite close to some more touristy offerings but well worth the time to nip in. Certainly my favourite in Oostende and worth popping into if you are in town.

’t Eilandje opened summer 2011 so it’s a fairly new pub in Ostend, but its atmosphere radiates old days - the 1950s - from the low music they play to the decoration of the bar. It’s a cozy and quiet place to sit down, and the audience a bit more adult than at other pubs in the area. The beer selection is pretty good, with Rodenbach Grand Cru and Goliath Tripel continuously on tap and close to 30 decent bottled beers, incl St Bernardus and 6 of the trappist breweries. A small but great beer pub.

Alhoewel ik dacht dat dit een gewoon volkscafé was ben ik aangenaam verrast van het gamma, 6 trappisten en Rodenbach Grand Cru van ’t vat mmmmmm.
