This place has been on the market for three years now but they cannot sell it because people come here for Piet and Mery, who run it. He may be an arrogant dick but he always has been. I see him as the antithesis of the out-the-peg sycophantic crowd pleasers found running most businesses nowadays. The failure to ban smoking is just railing against the machine. Itís a thoughtful beer range too.

Wait... I dint rate this strange place in Mtricht ? OK what to know about this place: you either like the owner or you hate him.
He told me this:
You come voluntarily inside and you drink(and pay) the beer I give/choose for you or you pay the beer and leave and I drink it....
(translation is a b*tch i know) But it sums up the guy. On the beer side its decent enough a bit expensive maybe.

Gonna keep this short. The owner is an arrogant dick. The selection is sub par. Smoking is allowed inside. Asked for a menu, was told I did not know any of the beers they had on hand and that they had to select for me. Basically they told me I didnt know anything about beer and couldnít choose a beer for myself. Do not recommend.

Nice place with a good selection of mostly Belgian and Dutch microbrews. One of the owners is a true beer guru, I stood amazed on how much he knew about beer. Apparently, he is a zytholoog. (qualified beer expert)

This is indeed a weird place. The ordering procedure has been described in the previous ratings so I wonít repeat it. I must say I didnít like the way the place was run. The beer selection was good but getting the beers was too complicated. Also, the cigarettte smoke was distubing.

A must-visit. The place Ė and everything in it Ė is subject to the owner and his wife. Be wary of that. You have nothing to want here. Peet, the owner, will determine that for you. Paradoxically, this is exactly the beauty of this place and the perfect formula for an hilarious evening. The owners have a true passion for beer, especially of the Belgian variety. Peet travels through Belgium in his van to purchase the stuff for your pleasure. What you have to do is simple; go in, take a seat and tell them your taste. After some insults, folklore, weird stories or pseudo-scientific debates about the properties of beer, you will be served a lovely beer. The point is that you donít pick your take, but explore the world of beer and get to know the unknown. Who better to guide you in this than Peet?
If youíd like some cheese or sausage to eat with your beer, just bring it yourself as Peet "canít be bothered to slice it for you". Heíll join in of course. Otherwise you can devour a mountain of peanuts and throw the caps on the floor.
The place is charmingly small and decorated with beer caps and all sorts of beer related trinkets. The bathroom is decorated with them as well, but only of beers he no longer serves. Ultimately, when in Maastricht this is the place to go.

Ok, this bar, or better, the owner caused for a strange experience in the late night we were visiting this place.
He called all his guests victims so I talk from victims experience. Didnít check the beer card because I had seen what his web page said they had. The 2nd beer I asked for is what he indeed could deliver, together with a strange but somewhat interesting delerium ish story about all kinds of beer related themes. I must have spoken with him for some brief time due to only drinking two or three beers at this place.
It was misty of the smoke that night and full of drunks but there was lots of fun and harmonious feelings floathing around in this place. So, I am not sure about his selection since I didnít check the beercard, didnít get a house brew to try (the owner told me about the troubles he experienced with the brewer) and had a long conversation about beer themes in an ultra smokey bar (asked me if I had troubles with people smoking, not at that moment, but the next day, all my clothes...) Anyways, this guy can tell stories and I enjoyed it!
Btw: free pindaís. Peel and throw away. Funny place to end the evening!

Seemed quite a lively student vibe when I went there on a Saterday night. Fairly busy and no seats available, also smoking inside. Nice enough selection of beers but prefer cafe Frappe by far.
