A traditional British pub located outside the walls, but still not more than about a ten minutes’ walk from the center. Divided into different rooms with a library-like room as the most popular of them. Offers six cask ales from breweries like Castle Rock, York, Copper Dragon and Roosters. Gives a partial run-down and worn out impression. (visited, 26.01.2013).

Great pub serving good cask ales, food excellent and good value for money. Warm and friendly bar staff, well worth a visit

Decent ambiance. Four or five cask ales on. GK IPA, Bradfield, Rudgate, Hobgoblin, Old Rosie and the like.

A mixed crowd featuring the business type as much as students gather in this pub just north of the city center, but still in the Heart of York and North of the cathedral. Juke box-type dark pub, rather calm on my visit. 5 guests real ales battle the usual continental offerings and do it finely as 4 of those I’ve not seen anywhere else in york. Perhaps not necessarily worth the detour if you’re in York for only one day, but you’d want to visit on your 2nd day. A different pub.. and large than most of the city centre’s.
