Great neighborhood place. Friendly staff and clientele. Good selection, though the list is a bit outdated. Beers are nicely kept and well served. Staff is generous with the samples. Food is creative bar fare. Live music is excellent when its on. Pool tables in the back. Best place in Ghent, and probably in Norfolk.

Made my first of what I hope to be many visits on 4/25/06: Groovy little joint in a redeveloping section of Norfolk. The night I visited, they had 34 quality taps and probably another 60 in bottles, only 4 of which started with "bud" or "miller". The little pizza I had was pretty good, but the hard-to-find taps were even better. Too bad I was driving! Revisit soonest!

The "other" tap house, is, in my opinion, better than the Hampton version. Ambiance is great, from the bottle cap tables to the abundant out door seating. Tap list is good, bottle list quite interesting, including vertical epics back to 2007. Definitely worth a stop.

Stopped here while i was in town on business. It was a great joint with lots of young folks in it. I think i was the only person in the bar that didnít have a tattoo or dyed hair...very hipster. Met a few nice folks though. The beer was good, they had alot of local beers on tap and changed a tap for me so i could have a beer that i wanted listed on their menu. The food looked good and i shared some crab dip. I will defiantly go back here next time i am in town, but if the hipster crowd bothers you stay out once the sun goes down.

A place I wish I had known about earlier. This place was great! They had some unique beers, and a lot of beers I love on draft. Bottle selection was fantastic as well, and only had a few beers out of stock (all were from the same company). They actually had a straightworward beer menu, so we knew exactly what we were getting before we got it. Nice staff, and only had to wait a few extra minutes than I would have wanted to for them to get us another round and the check, but hey, it was packed. Food smelled great, but we were already full before ariving, so we didnít get any. Left before a band started to play. Compared to my horrid Bier Garden experience an hour prior to this, the place was Heaven.

Just went back to the Taphouse after about 5 years. Still a bit of a ODU college bar, but a fantastic selection. 32 beers on tap, and many, many more in a bottle. Had my first Westy 12 here! I did not eat, but gputty assures me his burger was great.

Kinda a dive, but the food was very good as was the service. Pretty good selection of beers. Wish they did sampler flights -- they mentioned that they would be adding them someday soon.

While I havenít been in a while, this place was pretty good. We ended up going here when the Bier Garden was closed. They had a couple of beers on cask, including Smuttynose Old Brown Dog. We ate dinner here and the food was very good. This could have changed since last year, but at the time this place was great. The beer selection was above average and th service was good. Worth hitting up if you are anywhere near the area.

The wife and I went to the Outer Banks this past weekend and flew into Norfolk before driving down. We visited Taphouse Grill at Ghent last night as we were in town for the evening only to get a hotel room before flying out this morning. We read reviews here on Beer Advocate prior to our visit so we knew what we were up for.
I must say, we were not disappointed. The food was much better than your traditional bar fare, especially for a place that is such a "hole in the wall". The service was very good at the bar. It looked like the service was a bit slow at the tables so I would recommend sitting at the bar.
The beer selection was very solid with some stuff thatís usually not available in bars. Between the two of us we drank the following on draft: Hop Rod Rye, Duchesse De Bourgogne
, Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Jack and Kenís Ale, St. Bernardus Pater 6, New Belgium Trippel and Trois Pistoles. Not too shabby. Most definitely not a selection youíd find here in Southwest Florida. They probably have about 20 beers on tap as well as an extensive selection of bottles. I had read elsewhere online that they used to carry Westvleteren 12 from time to time but no luck last night. My wallet will probably thank me for that anyway.
I would highly recommend checking out the Taphouse Grill at Ghent if you are ever in the Norfolk area. We will definitely return if we ever happen to visit the area again.
