I have been to brewpubs all over the Chicagoland area and I had never had a truly terrible beer until I walked into Taylor Brewing Company on 03/22/2008. Since I am a big fan of dark flavorful beers, I first tried the Papaís Porter. It was undrinkable. It was flat and had a sour taste to it. I took more sips than I should have in a vain attempt to find something good about it. I eventually gave up and asked the bartender to take it away. Despite my comments about why I was not drinking the beer, he did not seem at all concerned that I was dissatisfied. At this point I tried the IPA that my wife had ordered. It was a little more hoppy, but otherwise shared the same unpleasant characteristics that had disappointed me with the porter. She also found the IPA to be terrible. I was pretty worried at this point that I would not be able to find a decent beer. I took a sip of the Dark Satin that my friend had ordered and it was not to my liking either. I am extremely open to new beers and I was astounded that one place would have three beers that I hated so much. At this point, I ended up ordering a scotch to cleanse my mouth of the bad beer taste. My friend didnít like the Dark Satin, but he pushed on and ordered a Rusty Dog Amber. After a quick taste we all agreed that this was the only beer that we had found to be remotely drinkable at Taylor Brewing Company. Not high praise considering how bad the others were. We didnít order any food, but it was the promise of good beer that had brought us in. Having failed to find any of that, we will never go back.

Visited October 2010.

I dont like to hate on places BUT the service was slow and not overly helpful, the nachos were pretty lackluster (though the burger wasnt bad), and the beer was pretty bad (infected in some cases). Not much else to say since theyíre closed now and no one will even be able to go there anymore.

When they were at 5th Av Station and Ed was the brewer they were great. They fired Ed but kept his recipes which they had no ideas how to use AND IT SHOWS! They beer was awful (infected) last time I was there. Food wasnít even as good as it had been. Not going back

Large, spacious, open feel to the place with a bunch of signs from crappy beers on the walls.. the menu looked good, but I didnít eat there.. the bartender was friendly and answered all my questions satisfactorily.. plenty of TVs with sports coverage.. lots of beers on tap (11 I think) that ranged from poor to decent.. no big styles represented, and it sounds like they donít often have íem.. most of the beers are contract-brewed through Capital and Two Brothers, with 3 or so of the taps brewed in-house.. I reluctantly agree with Walt that you should go a little ways down the street to R.B.

We were there in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday and literally were the only ones there for like 2 hours...service was good, but the manager was serving us and he was chatty Cathy...beers were shitty and at best mediocre...had the appetizer sampler which was also mediocre...go the extra 500 yards to Rock Bottom.

Just your standard, average restaurant that brews its own beer. You can order a beer sampler to get a flavor of what they serve. The beer was nothing special and neither was their other selections although the Two Brothers was a nice suprise. The food was good and the service was okay. They had some interesting raspberry wheat beer.

I went in with a negative bias, but very much wanted to be proven wrong. At first things were going quite well. The first 3 brews of my 6 beer sampler did not have any gaping flaws, although they were clearly designed to appeal to a wider audience. I thought to myself that if their brewmaster just pushed the envelope on a couple of beers, they could turn some heads. However, on beer #4, Dark Satin, things took a turn for the worse. The remaining 3 beers all had noticeable flaws. Regarding the food, my burger was well above average. It was cooked to order (medium rare) and was nice and juicy. My daughterís chicken fingers were very dry, but with some ranch dressing, were edible. Prices are on the high side. $10 for a 6 beer sampler, especially with average beer? My burger was $9 and the kids meals were $3.99 apiece. The place was packed at 5:45pm on a Saturday night and we had to wait 15 minutes for a table. I shudder to wonder how popular this place would be with good beer. Not worth going for the beer, but for food and atmmosphere may be worth going once.

Stopped in for a couple of brews one night with 5-6 buddies. Didnít have everything advertised on tap available. No dark beers. What we ordered wasnít that good. Waitress did not seem knowledgable about their beers. One brew was so skunky we sent it back. This was only one experience - but I am unlikely to go back. Heard from two others who were also less than impressed.

This has the feel of a large chain restaurant. The bar is very big and spacious, everything just has an organized, commercialized feel. The lackluster beer is not adventurous at all. TWO light beers on tap when I went. Not worth a special trip, but I guess itíd be all right to have dinner here or maybe try some beers if Iím in the immediate vicinity anyway.
