I used to visit this place every time Iíd go to Pizza Port but now itís more like once a year.
Plenty of beers available including some lesser hyped locals and of course the popular stuff that everyone wants. The owner knows a fair amount about beer so just ask if youíre looking for something. Over all the store is very small but in the small area theyíve managed to squeeze a lot of stuff in.
My only complaint is that the pricing has gone steadily upwards in the last couple years, not that it was ever "cheap" to begin with.

Just up the street from Pizza Port. Not a huge store, but quite the large selection. Unlike a lot of places, beer really seems to dominate. Huge selection of local San Diego beers as well as stuff from all over the state and world. Prices are on the high side here, though.

World class bottle shop. The selection is the best I have found in the San Diego area. Loads of local stuff. Some Pliney on my stop. The guy working there was enthusiastic and helpful without being annoying, which is great. He told me and some other customers about the Goose Island Bourbon County stuff he was keeping behind the counter. The value is good to begin with but they also offer volume discounts: buy six bottles get the seventh for a nickel, buy 12 bottles the eleventh and twelfth for a dime. Not bad. Not bad at all. This place is a five-minute walk from Pizza Port Carlsbad so take them both in on one visit.

Walking distance from Pizza Port Carlsbad and across the street from 83 Degrees. Big parking lot. Huge interior that is stuffed with bottles and center shelf makes for a cramped experience. Almost everything is fridged though and they have a huge selection. Was able to find some Bruery RS only stuff for sale along with the new Almanacs. Hair of the Dog, normal Upright offerings, more bizarre imported stuff. Lots to take in. Prices were reasonable, nothing too shocking. They had Duck Duck Goose for sale in a locked cabinet, but I didnít dare ask the price.

underated bottle store. Great selection of the locals, their complete line, and harder to get Califormia beers. Priced at the going rate, with hours much more convenient than the Pizza Port bottle shop.

Visited later in the evening. Service was prompt and very friendly. The beer is laid out in one long aisle, racks on one side, coolers on the other. The selection was pretty great, and the prices were very fair. I found 12 or so bottles pretty much right away, and would have bought a ton more if it wasnít for our friends at the TSA. If you are just going to bottle shop, I would recommend this place over the Pizza Port bottle shop due to selection and price. If you want to hang out a bit, PP is a better option, of course. I believe I receive a free bottle based on a case purchase.
82 = ★★★Ĺ (Solid place, near the top of the list for locals and visitors)
I only use the total score, not the component parts.

This place is a 5/10 minute walk from Pizza Port, so if you are in the area why not? An impressive selection of 500+ bottles awaits! Beer pretty much takes up half of this fairly sizeable liquor store. Most beers are bombers. Comprehensive selection of California and US, with a few gems like Alpine. European selection is also solid with harder to get stuff like LoverBeer sours. Prices were definitely on the high side in comparison to other places I visited in California. Even though the selection was massive I didnít see too many beers that I couldnít have got elsewhere. Still well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Huge selection in coolers and on the shelves. They have a buy 6, get the 7th for a nickle. Even at that the prices are on the high side, but the selection is worth it.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. Just down the street from Pizza Port Carlsbad. Easy parking lot out front. Surprisingly large selection of beers. Good ones too. Saw a bunch of Bourbon Barrel Top Sail, which I havenít seen around too often. Employees seemed nice, but not extremely knowledgeable. Pricing seemed decent as well. Worth a stop if you are in the area.

Original Sept 2007 rate (second rater for this place)
They have three cooler doors full of craft beer singles hailing from the west coast, points east, Belgium, Europe and elsewhere. Decent pricing too. No real surprises here so I walked out empty handed. Also a mirror like collection opposite but not in the cooler. So if it isnít in the frig check there too.
A return visit December 2011 with how they have stepped it up here really really requires a re-rate. Wow, they pull in tons of options from close by in SoCal to tasty Danish brewed treats and other odds and ends from around the globe. This is way more impressive than my 2007 visit. They still have pretty much the same size cold space but now opposite are well stocked, well organized and sharply displayed bottle options. There seemed to be harder to find bottles everywhere I looked. The guy behind the counter, owner maybe, was very nice and gracious. This is a must if youíre looking for something harder to find. This is not really the place to go to stock up as the prices are higher than elsewhere. For me Iím usually looking for new stuff so this works. Iíll be back for sure.
