Decent size bottle shop near East Putney tube (just a few hundred meters away from where I was living). Itís clean, but thereís way too much light on the beers because of the huge window and no protection for the beer. I was lucky as, unlike other comments, the guy who worked at the store was friendly. Selection seemed pretty good to me with a focus on beers from England, but a good amount of interesting foreign beers. Some beers are pricey, but others are fair prices (Kernel, Partizan & others). Overall, a very nice little beer shop, but I would be cautious with beer exposed to light and I probably wouldnít be a regular because of the prices.

Small to medium sized bottle shop on the Upper Richmond Road that links East Putney tube (District) and Putney BR, approx 3 mins on foot from the former, 5 or so from the latter. I popped in around 5pm on a Monday and was the only person in the shop. There was a guy behind the counter on a laptop who chose not to look up. Now I donít usually want any help when Iím in a beer shop Iím happy to browse at my own pace and if I have a question thereís a tongue somewhere in my gob for said purpose but this bloke didnít look up once or even say hello which I though was a bit piss poor. Selection was decent enough if a little over priced on most offerings. Orkney Dark Island Reserve probably the most extreme example @£21, picked this up the other week for £16, outside of London admittedly, but quite the mark up for Putney rent ! Selection was solid enough but nothing rare you couldnít get elsewhere and for less. When I went to pay mr important was still on his lap top and I was about to start counting to 10 and walk out when he eventually acknowledged me, took my money and short changed me £1. FFS - I was the only person in the shop, he had nothing to do other than sell me one bottle of beer and he got the change wrong! Canít say Iíd ever make the effort to come here again. I guess if you lived in the area it offers some good bottles and I probably would use it from time to time were I a local. Oh and theres nothing cool or clever in making fake accounts and rating your own place 90+ twice. Both users logged in on one day only and havenít been seen since - do you think we donít clock this ????? Most people will however value the reviews of those of us with 3 or 400 place ratings so it does nothing but make you look desperate !

(From visit earlier this year) Shop is conveniently placed between Putney station and East Putney underground. Much more spacious than most beer shops in London. Staff are friendly. Standard beers from USA, some from Belgium. A lot of the German / British selection is displayed very near the window which could cause some light damage to the beers. You can pick up some good stuff, but it tends to be quite costly. (60). Re-rated August 2013 - Better selection than last time, and slightly better prices on some items. They have now put in tables so that people could sit and drink if they want. Overall, I think itís an improvement. Bit more variety in selection and theyíd be moving into the 70s.

I stopped past here for the first time on a hot summerís day and was immediately disappointed to see some bottles in the shop being drenched in sunlight.... So If I were you I would avoid buying anything from the shelves nearest the window! Excluding this fact I found the rest of the shopping experience pretty good. I thought they had a pretty decent selection (perhaps an improvement according to previous people who visited?), but they are definitely not making the most of the fairly large space. The shop selection is generally separated into German, UK, American and Belgian. Both the UK and Belgian sections had some interesting beer Ė 3 new Kernel beers for me (this doesnít happen too often) and 3 different bottles of Fantome being the highlights. About 90% beer is on shelves and they have a small selection in fridges, which I hope they expand. A lot of the beers had a description, which is pretty useful to the general public. Prices were a touch higher than elsewhere, but Beer Boutique is still a decent addition to this area.

I was a bit underwhelmed by this place. It is exceptionally well organized and neat, but the range could be a lot better, and almost all the beers are priced about £0.30-0.50 more than I would want to pay. (N.b. a beginning beer drinker will certainly find plenty of interesting beers here, from the UK, Belgium and US.) But perhaps the largest drawback of this shop is the exposure to light. The front of the shop is all glass and, on the sunny afternoon I visited, the sun was hitting at least 50% of the stock; the bottles nearest the window or even in the window displays stand no chance. Additionally, the temperature inside the shop was well above what I would be comfortable with for storing beer. I ended up not buying anything (although a Kernel did tempt me) as there was nothing here I couldnít find at a better price and perhaps in better condition than at other London beer stores. I like their effort but they can improve in some areas.

UPDATE: Apparently whoever runs this place likes to lash out against RateBeer on Twitter. I guess somebody canít take constructive criticism.

A triumph of style over substance in my opinion. The beers are artistically arranged on the shelves, limiting the number available. The lighting is moody, making it hard to read the labels or the minisculey printed descriptions on the shelf edge. The range is tiny compared with what could be stocked in the space available. There are some better and unusual items, and these of course are priced accordingly. I dropped in hoping to scoop some Kernels, as I was passing by, but they only had two. Certainly not somewhere Iíd go out of my way to visit.

Beer shop close to East Putney tube and Putney station. Light and airy with lots of space for when it gets busy. Bottles nicely showcased on chunky wooden shelves and crates. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Decent selection but probably not as wide as Drink of Fulham, especially on the UK side. Also offer online ordering and free delivery to SW15 addresses.
