Staff is rude and donít always seem to know what they are talking about. Prices are high and ingredients are old. If you shop here donít, go to Artís 642 Washington Street Salt Lake City, UT 84101-2728 - (801) 533-8029

I do not enjoy the limited selection at the beer nut and the feeling they are trying to nickel and dime me. I thought the Beer Nut was the only location in Utah for homebrewing but discovered Artís Hombrewing Supplies who has a much better selection at significantly cheaper prices. Now I only visit beer nut when I have to.

Not sure how I missed rating the Beer Nut.
Homebrew and wine making supplies and ingredients. Good service, prices are average.

They can get an attitude, but since they are now more or less the only game in town (with one rather unmentionable exception) they get away with it -and know it. Have a tendancy to nickle and dime you for the spare change in your pocket.. and on the floor of your car. Great selection and if you get the right employee they can be very helpful and actually friendly. (That ammounts to about 25% of the staff). if you get the wrong one, save your gas money and spend it on shipping online. Honestly, I only go there if I absolutely have to and canít wait for slupplies to be shipped to me from somewhere else.

The Beer Nut serves two groups, beer makers and wine makers. Most of the people working at the store make beer and are fairly well informed on the topic. But we started making wine last year and found them highly uninformed, uninterested, and unhelpful for this side of the business. Multiple times they were out of standard ingredients, different people gave us conflicting information, and we were charged variable rates on products depending on who served us. I hope that these problems do not extend to the beer making products and services, but it is hard to imagine there is not some overlap. Living in Salt Lake City we thought there was only one place to go for vintner and beer making products, but it turns out that is not true.

An awesome homebrew shop right on State Street. Lots of brewing kits and equipment, plus the coolest management in the world. Iím not sure of the selection or value, since Iím not much of a brewer, but it seems nice.

This is the main place I get anything homebrew-related. They have most of everything you want from ingredients to equipment. Occasionally I mail order something from somewhere else, though thatís normally equipment that is kind of special use. The service is also very friendly. One time I forgot my wallet at work, only to notice this when I was at the checkout counter. Jamie (the manager) was very nice and put it on my tab. Sure, she knows Iím a regular and knows Iíll be back, but I thought it was extremely nice, and she certainly didnít have to do it.

Great homebrew shop the owners and workers where awesome to talk to. They gave me the low down of where to visit and they even told me about 2 other Homebrew shops to visit so I have a chance to hit them all. This is a great place and a must visit if in Utah and you brew. Funny Utah laws it is legal to buy the supplies however it is just illegal to brew Ė Go Figure.

The Beer Nut has pretty much anything you need for the home brewer/vitner. A good selection of whole grain malts to pre-boxed recipes and equipment.
