(Visited 09/2010): The Beer Trappe is a nice little store/bar on Euclid Ave on the east side of Lexington, not too far from UK. There is street parking right in front of the store. The inside is relatively small and well organized, with shelves of beer (many singles) running the length of the left side. There are also smaller shelves in the middle part of the store, and a fairly small bar on the right side that seats just a few people (and was at capacity on our visit). There is a collection of tap handles behind the bar as well. Bottled beers range in the hundreds, with lots of craft brewers represented domestically and as imports. Some highlights included the Mikkeller Single Hop series, Bell’s, Schlafly, Stone, Dogfish Head and many more. In addition there are around 8 taps from brewers like Bell’s, Flying Dog, Stone and Schlafly. Service was decent on our visit. The guys behind the bar didn’t really go out of our way to help us but granted they had their hands pretty full with the bar patrons. They were friendly enough at checkout. Overall this is a worthwhile stop for anyone in Lexington.

What a hidden gem in Lexington! This is a serious beer bar with many rarities you’ll be lucky to find anywhere else in a 100 mile radius. There is a long shelf of bottles to go as well as growlers to go and of course a bar for enjoying beer on premise. Prices are fantastic like most anywhere else in this town. There is no food. Contrary to this site, they are open on Sunday which I luckily found out from some patrons at Pazzo’s. The Beer Trappe is the must stop in Lexington.

Middle for the block on Euclid with street parking all around. Short narrow bar against back wall with eight taps. Freindly staff with good knowledge of beers on tap and on wall. Afternoon before basketball game so it was not real busy and found a seat at the bar. Very good selection of bottle beers for drink in or carry out. I found 7 new beers. They did not have food but can be found in area and carried in. Couches in the front for group drinking and general gathering. Will visit agian when in area..

This is a really nice beer store. Inside is clean and well organized, there is a bar with beer on tap and a nice area to chill. You can order a pint and walk around and shop. Service is great, staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Selection is outstanding, great tap list, chilled bottles for onsite consumption and a huge selection of beers to go. Value seemed really good for the area, especially on bottles to go. I love these types of beer stores, grab a pint and do some shopping. Would definitely come back if in the area.

This place is owned by the same family as Pazzo’s, but it’s night and day different. Staff and beer list are AMAZING! Good atmosphere too. This place is worth the trip itself.

On our way to Pazzo’s we stopped off. Parking is on the street and can get a little difficult on Friday night. The place is a bar and a bottle shop. Ambiance is really cool at this place. There was two bar tenders at the bar to the right. Lots of good quality singles to the left. Some refrigerated brews at the back of the place. Prices and selection were good, so I loaded up. I will be back to this place. Most bars that sell beer to go have a gross price increase, not this place. Bartender loaded my beers into a nice box. I plan on going back.

Being a Lexington native (now in Louisville), this place has been long in the waiting for me, and other craft beer lovers in the area. There are things to work on, but my review overall is favorable, and looking forward to seeing how this promising destination goes forward. The ambiance of this place reminds me of the old Belgian beer stores you see in the Michael Jackson films. Considering that this place used to be some kind of far east market, the change is quite astounding. Beers line the shelves on the left, with a bar area\sitting area to the right. Service was immediate, but, here’s where I start nitpicking- I didn’t feel the love. I came into this place plenty excited to be sure, but the owner and his female employee seemed mentally elsewhere, and not big on conversation about beer. Note- if you have a store like this, seem INTERESTED to discuss beer! Selection is the best in Lexington, by far, especially in the area of Belgian beers. See the website for their full list of offerings, which has room to grow on their shelves. The eight taps were too similar in style for me; I would have liked more variety here. The value of the beers was very good for the quality, and maybe a tad bit more affordable than Liquor Barn. I also think it would be cool if this place had some Trappist cheeses and such, but they only have potato chips. To be fair, they openly admit that food is not their thing. Overall, there’s much here to be excited about, but obviously some areas of growth as well.

Maybe the start of the craft revival in Lexington. I first came here only a couple weeks after it opened, and since then, they’ve done a good job keep beers on the shelves and interesting taps going. Unfortunately, some of the more interesting taps are being hyped online, making it impossible for everyday drinkers to get in and have some, but still, a must stop in Lexington.

This is a great beer bar and bottle shop rolled into one. No wine or liquor means more focus on having an awesome regularly rotating tap selection. Bottle selection is almost entirely single bottles and very nicely arranged. They also have a respectable glassware selection. Not a lot of room inside but enjoyed sitting outside at one of their 4 tables. The staff was very friendly and took the time to safely wrap the glasses I bought. Had Dreadnaught on tap and purchased bottles of Arctic Panzer Wolf and Breakfast Stout to go. A must stop for anyone in Lexington.

The perfect beer shop? For me it is. 8 taps with 2 funky beers when I visited. First thing I saw was a highly allocated and (I’d thought) sold out future whale behind the bar. Good start. $1 for a 2oz pour of any beer they have, so no thimble taster to rush your decision. I love this place. Made up my mind. Time to hit the shelves. Bottles are well organized and there is plenty of room to shop - this was a Saturday morning. I’m sure it fills up for events. Might not have the largest selection in the state, but it’s not a giant box liqour store and what they have is almost all good stuff. Kentucky beer prices can’t be beat and Beer Trappe is no exception. This place is a must stop. It’s not much of a trip off 75 and well worth the short detour.
