Probably the best place in the Capital District for beer. 30 taps (one of which is a cask) and always top shelf choices. Plenty of great American craft beers and Belgians. You’ll see the must-have beers of the moment here like Evil twin, Jack’s Abbey, New England Beer Co., Maine Beer Co, etc.
Ilove the church-theme decor. Many of the tables are literal church pews, the stain glass is nice. There’s a big TV in the back great for MNF and other sporting events but this is far from a sports bar.
The food menu is pretty standard fare. I’ve had everything on it and nothing has disappointed. The Abbey burger is probably the best, and the pastrami is surprisingly good. Not a fan of the fries, though.
The service, while friendly, is usually slow, unless you sit at the bar. The staff knows more about beer than most places, so you wont hear generic terms like "it’s a dark beer".
The best thing about The Bier Abbey is that they allow 4oz pours of everything on the menu, for $2-$4 per beer. Everything’s available in 10, 12 or 16oz pours and ALWAYS in the appropriate glassware. Rare you’ll see a shaker glass here (unless you order water or soda). They supposedly have a selection of bottles and cans, but the draught menu is so good who needs it unless you’re getting something really rare and expensive to go (like a Swiss sour, for example).
Expect to pay a pretty penny, here (but it’s worth it). I usually drop $30-$40 on myself alone, so a date can be quite pricey. Technically family/kid friendly, but there’s nothing on the menu kids would like except maybe the chicken fingers.

Can’t beat a bar that allows you 4 oz pours....for anything on tap. Service is usually excellent, with knowledgeable staff. Food is well above average for a bar. The tap list is everchanging with plenty of selections from kolsch to Sour Rye....

Stopped in for food and beers on 7/1/13. Cool place in an old house. Had some interesting one-offs, including Imperial Biscotti Break Decicco version. The cheese plate had some delicious cheeses and olives and the portions were generous, wwhich is surprising for a cheese plate. Service was attentive and friendly.

I REALLY loved this place. The food was top notch. Quality cheese and smoked meats as well as chicken tenders made from scratch. The sauces are all made in house as well. Prices were fair considering the fact this place doesn’t use frozen processed foods and a deep fryer. They go the extra mile.
Tap list was extensive and always changing. I was there from 2PM to 2AM with 7 friends and they took very good care of us. They also have free open WiFi.

Very nice spot. In an old row house. Great ambiance. Church pews look great. 30 taps all of high quality. Lots of Belgian ales on tap, DuPont, kasteel, unibroue to name a few. American micros are also well represented. Great friendly service. Stop by if in the area

They had about 30 beers on their tap list menu. A pretty good variety--maybe about half domestic, half imports (mostly Belgian) over a wide range of style. The bartenders and waitresses were knowledgeable and attentive. One major plus on the value side is that they offer smaller pours for $3-4, which is great if you just want to taste a wide variety of beers. I didn’t order any food, so I can’t comment on that. Would come back.
