70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 ontbeermaker (157) Ontario | September 16, 2012 Place not hard to find, nice ambiance in what i assume is an old train station, service was okay, as it wasnt that busy, portions seemed somewhat small. The beer was okay, nice that there is a selection of other craft brewerys and a some seasonals as well. Worth checking out at least once if in the area | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 cheap (136) Cheap Lager in Western, Pennsylvania | February 25, 2012 Big place with not a whole lotta parking on a friday night. 20 minute wait for seating even tho lots of empty tables were available. Greeter was initially a little rude. Bottle shop inside had quite a few bombers but very few singles to make a six pack from. Quite loud. Layout of place is nice; converted train station. Got a 4 0z sample of all 8 house beers for $10. Fish was really good and coleslaw was exceptionally good. Fries were a little soggy but went well with coleslaw. Wife had portabella mushroom wrap and thought it was good. Even tho we asked to be seated away from the band, they put us there anyhow. Was expecting really loud music but it was tolerable. Overall good beer expereince. Waitress at table was much nicer that greeter. Been wanting to try this place for a while now its done! | 74 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 17/20 beerme31 (14) Apex, North Carolina | December 2, 2011| Updated December 30, 2012 Nice to a beer menu dedicated to PA. Not too expensive. Great atmosphere and no problems with our service. Burgers are excellent, ground on site. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 15/20 desurfer (103) Melbourne, Florida | November 21, 2011| Updated December 30, 2012 Pretty good house beers, small but solid PA-centric bottle collection, great bar food. Extremely wallet friendly, especially to this Baltimore/DC native. 100% worth a stop for dinner if you find yourself in Erie. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 RayOhm (32) Fergus, Ontario | August 27, 2011| Updated December 30, 2012 great service, good food at good prices. really nice building. they only have their own beers on tap but there is a nice bottle list. worth the stop. | 52 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 9/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | August 4, 2011| Updated December 30, 2012 Great location. It’s in the lobby of the train station. Paradoxically a Brewpub in a train station looks more like a train station than I’m sure the train station ever did. The beers on the other hand were aggressively mediocre and the service even worse. Luckilly they had a selection of PA craft beer in bottles. The service left a lot to be desired and $9 for a six beer sampler where the beers were only 2/3 full is practically criminal. | 66 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 gsmitty80 (168) Washington DC | July 11, 2011| Updated December 30, 2012 Went here when it first opened back in 2007ish. Building is beautiful and the food was good but at the time they had very few beers. Will have to re-rate and keeping this as a placeholder to remind me. | 54 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 10/20 robgibbens (16) Gaithersburg, Maryland | June 9, 2011| Updated December 30, 2012 I really wanted to love this place because the rest of Erie is having a hard time. This looked to me to be a jewel in the rough. And I am originially from Erie. I was in town for a reunion and stopped by two nights.
The place is in the old Union Station and looks awesome inside. It’s quite a piece of local history and I dig that. The beers were also quite good. I was not expecting that. And they offer up a bunch of other PA beers.
I only had an appetizer but it was great. The only drawback both nights was the service. The place was pretty dead both nights (Friday and Saturday) so there is no reason for my party to wait for almost 10 minutes to get someone to help us. Eventually the bartender had to take our order while the waitress did whatever. I was hoping it was a fluke, but two nights in a row? Killer for me. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Foxbush (49) Richmond, Virginia | May 15, 2011| Updated December 30, 2012 This was a great place. The station was an excellent venue for a brewpub. Our waitress knew her beers and gave me a tour of the beer garden which will ope later in May. The food was excellent. I had mussels and an excellent chicken sandwich. We were able to speak to the brewmaster. Another brewery in town uses their equipment over the weekend. My disappointment was they were out of the three beers I wanted to taste. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 jessilea (12) edinboro, Pennsylvania | March 18, 2011| Updated December 30, 2012 The Ambiance should really get a 5 because its a very uniquely beautiful building, but if you sit in the main dining room the noise level can be a little unpleasant. I really suggest the bar dining area. The food is excellent, but i’ve never been overly impressed with their menu, just not enough to choose from. The selection of craft brews is nice and area specific so it’s a great place if you want to try a lot of Pennsylvania and tri-state area brews. Their own beers are ok, with an occasional really good beer, but also an occasional really poor beer. Still, there’s something very special about this place that makes me come back regularly, and enjoy my visit every time. |
