68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 pivnizub (426) Bochum, Porúří, Germany | September 18, 2009 Small upmarket cellar bar on the premises of the former famous "U sv. Tomaše" beer hall in the recently opened stylish "Augustine- Hotel"; so do not expect a typical Prague pivnice ! After a longer break the tradition to serve specially brewed "black beers" in this place has been resumed. To the year 1950 the augustine brothers brewed and served their own beer here, later a special 14° ČERNÉ (literally "black", but it was a Dunkel in the bavarian style), brewed in Branik, was available here. Now a very good dark 14° Svatotomášský Ležák, brewed by Mr. Martin Matuška - the brewer of Strahov - in his own little brewery at Broumy, is available only here at pretty high prices ( 0.5l = 80 czech crowns, more than two times the cost of a very decent Urquell at U hrocha). But no reason to cry, absolutely worth a visit ! |
