Beer selection is pretty good. Beer flights are pre-determined, Light, Medium, or Dark - 4 to a flight. Service was friendly, food was very good. Atmosphere was a little too cold with a lot of brick and wobbly high-top tables. Not nice or cozy enough for the higher prices.

Nice brick interior that is on the dark side. Beer selection is good, not great, with the cream of the crop being it’s Belgians. Nice selection of Belgian bottled beer. I seem to recall the selection being better in the past. Bonus that it’s just down the block from Surdyk’s Wine & Cheese Shop, which has a good selection of beer. Otherwise, not enough of a selection for me to go out of my way for, but if in the area give it a shot as they sometimes have some special beers on.

Fairly nice atmosphere in this place during the day, gets kinda loud and bro-y once the sun goes down. Nice selection of Belgian beers on tap, but can be kinda pricy. The bulldog prides themself of high class bar food, which shows. The burgers there are often quite solid and unique. I wish I could say the same about the service. Usually takes a while for the servers/bartenders to even acknowledge your presence and won’t check up on you very often. Even though they have a decent beer selection, the staff doesn’t really know anything about it, so don’t bother asking questions.

Classed up bar. Decent atmosphere. very very busy when we were there. Service was decent considering. Some good taps but and a few decent surprises on rotation. Though nothing mind blowing. better than average, but not the best beer bar in the city. Food was actually pretty good.

Very solid beer bar with good selection. Not quite the same vibe as the uptown or St. Paul locations, but hey - you’re in NE drinking beer - life is okay!

This is a place I prefer to go to during the day. At night this place can get very crowded and loud, although you can bring a date here and get laid later that night! Beer selection is usually pretty solid, and they’ve been getting a bunch of Bell’s beers in lately. They have been out of Cantillon for as long as I can remember, though. Service can be a bit spotty, as I’ve sat for up to 5 minutes waiting to be helped on a few occasions. Food is pretty solid but spendy, as are the beers as well.

A complete 180 from The Bulldog on Lyndale in terms of decor. Much more modern and nice. Good selection of beers on tap and bottle. Gets REALLY busy on the weekend. Get in early and grab a table if you are going to stay for a while. Staff is fairly nice. I like the one on Lyndale better but if I am up in the NE, I make an effort to pop in.

Visited for dinner with friends on a Saturday night 2/29/2009. Arrived at around 6PM and got the last table. They only take reservations for parties of 8 or more, so get there early on weekends to get a table. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about all the beer selection. I ordered a few tap Belgians and all came in appropriate glassware. They also had some Hop Slam in season which was nice to see. The food was American style, all with a twist to take it to gastronomic new heights. The burgers are Kobe beef. I had the Truffle burger - out of this world. The atmosphere was fantastic, the food top notch, the beer selection (while slanted toward Belgian and somewhat lacking in regional craft) was really nice. The prices are decent and this is a great value. This is a place to which I will gladly return!

I’m perpetually conflicted over whether I take this place for granted or whether it isn’t quite the religious experience I was always expecting. It is true that there are a ridiculous number of beers on tap, including American micros (Bell’s, Rush River, Summit), standard imports (Stella, Pilsner Urquell, Amstel), and many delightful Belgians (Maredsous, Bernardus, Chouffe, Delerium, and more). It is true there are even more selections in bottle form (Sprecher, Corsendonk, Chimay). It is true that they’re affordably priced ($4-$6) and served in proper glassware. It is true that the burgers are among the better in the city and that the rest of the menu is equally solid. Even so, it feels as though the place has rested on its laurels a bit. The beer selection is largely unchanged since the place opened and the number of rotating slots for guest beers and seasonals are woefully few. The selection of local brews they carry is very underwhelming (no Surly?). The lack of a happy hour also pains me. Surely a must-visit place if you’re in the area, but it feels like it could be even more with a little more effort.
