One of those hostelries where craft and CAMRA meet. Iíve been here a few times íway back whení but this is my first time since joining RB and moving to Cambs. The main bar area is flanked by two larger seating areas, and thereís another little room to the back in the left. Nice building. Steady but far from rammed on an early Friday evening. The beer is great: 9 real ales - seven Adnams and two from Purity - impeccably served. A few Adnams keg options (Innovation IPA, Dry Hopped Lager etc) plus Meantime Yakima Red and a couple of Germans. No interesting bottles as far as I could see. Food is reasonable and, while I remember this as being one of the priciest Cambridge pubs 7-8 years ago, itís now in line with the ímoderately expensiveí pubs in the city.

Have visited a couple of times over the years. However, itís located on the "far side" of the city centre (coming from the station) and there are plenty of more tempting hostrelries on the way so I often donít have time for it when visiting Cambridge. A tidy and efficient Adnams pub with bare boards and a woody decor that manages to combine an open feel with a degree of cosiness. If you like adnams beers, or need to tick some Adnams beers, this is a very solid choice as they carry a very full range (not all Adnams pubs do) - five regulars and a couple of changing seasonals plus more on keg. There are a couple of non-Adnams guest casks too. The burgers are highly regarded but Iíve never eaten here. Maybe not an essential destination in itself (unless you particularly want Adnams beers) but well worth a look if youíre in the vicinity.

Worth the walk - that will build up your hunger for a Castle Burger. Yes, I like the pub grub here a lot. Iím no fan of Adnams, alas, so find the beer choice a little limited. But if you like the Adnams terroir, then youíll be in hog heaven here. Ownerís always friendly, chef too, and the rest of the staff are a good bunch.

A pleasant spot. I had a friendly but rather dopey bartender (a woman in her early 40s, in case youíre curious). The pub itself is rather lovely; it kind of reminded me of a country house kitchen. Lots of natural light. The range is mostly Adnams (not surprisingly) but unfortunately they didnít have any beers from the brewery that you couldnít find other places throughout the UK. Prices were OK, though not great bargain. Maybe worth a visit if youíre walking around town, but not a destination in my estimation.

Out of Cambridge town centre, but worth the walk. I didnít eat here but the menu looked gorgeous. Decent beer selection. Itís an Adnams pub so they have mainly Adnams beers, but Iím cool with that and there are guest ales too. Well worth the walk.

This was the best pub we visited on a weekend beer trip to Cambridge (early Dec 2011): I love Adnamís beers and having eight different ones on cask was heart-warming to see. They also had keg beers but I got target fixation on the hand pulls and canít remember beers Iíve no interest in, I suppose there was a lager of some sort and maybe an Irish Stout, could have been a bank of fonts for all I know. This isnít a posh pub; itís a proper drinking place with furniture that is functional more than comfy or smart. We secured a table on arrival and although fairly full there was enough room for everybody who entered after us and those that wanted could have found a seat in any of the rooms I saw. Locals were friendly, we chatted to two couples during our stay, beer lovers and amiable, just like it should be. Split level pub with several drinking areas, all served by the central bar, service was fine and considering how busy it was the staff coped admirably and pleasantly. Didnít ask any beery questions because I knew all the beers, but they all knew how to pull a pint so no problems with the service at all. The four different beers I had along with the dark rum before walking back to our hotel were all in good order, my friends drinks also well received.

Nice place outside of city center. Itís Adnams pub, but they have also other beers. Evenings is quite full of people. Service is good. They serve also food, but we didnít ate there. Worth for a visit.
