While these scores may seem inflated, I think they are very well deserved. As a lifelong South Carolinian, I can honestly say that a shop as specialized and passionate about beer as CBX is a rarity (to the point that I believe it is the only one like it in the state to-date). Over the summer, I had the opportunity to make several visits to pick up some hard-to-find bottles and enjoy the goodness of growler fills while on vacation. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and it is evident that their business means more than just a paycheck. While some may consider the small size of the shop a drawback, they make very efficient use of the space. I can say this in all honesty as my wife and I had my 3-year-old son with us and were initially concerned about taking him inside. If I remember correctly, the owners built the shelving themselves. In addition to the shelved bottles, there is a cooler of more quickly moving selections and 5L kegs. They also carry a selection of glassware. There was nothing from BMC, which is a welcome sight when one is expecting any selection to be pleasing. The growler fill station was clean and well maintained. Empty CBX branded growlers are $5, and fills were quite reasonable. The charm of being downtown makes parking issues not a very big deal to me. Pricing was very reasonable based on anything I have to compare to. While there may be stores with a larger selection or very slightly lower prices, you won’t find them in SC (as of this writing -- still holding out hope for a similar place in Greenville) and you won’t find better service anywhere.

This is a new store in Charleston run by 2 longtime beer fans. They have gone out of their way to stock the store with beers not otherwise available in Charleston stores. Another innovation is the 6 tap growler station, the only one in Charleston. I marked them down on selection, but that is only because 1/3 or so of their inventory is there yet. What they do have is outstanding. I finally got a Terra’Ryzed, a beer I really wanted to try. The prices tend to be about 10% less than similar size stores in Charleston. I definite place to go!!! Update: Finally had a chance to revisit this place and the selection has greatly improved. They have beers that are not carried anywhere else. In this trip alone I purchased 7 top 100 beers and some longtime wants. Keep up the good work!!!!

Downtown Charleston’s beer hotspot. Small and effective packed full of great/rare/hard-to-find beer! If you’re making a trip to Charleston - you’ve got to stop by this place! I stopped in with my wife and spent a small fortune on a good amount of beer! Reasonably priced product, knowledgeable, friendly staff and all the beers I want to drink!

Could not have been a better store with a more knowledgeable passionate staff. Rich helped me today, I am from out of town and read up on the hype. It has so many beer I couldn’t even take everything I wanted! So glad they ship, can’t wait to return to the area and revisit!

The guys are always great when I go in and always willing to spend a few minutes discussing new arrivals or finding something new that suits your palate. CBX is a great supporter and advocate of the craft beer movement in Charleston as well.

By far the best beer store in Charleston. Awesome staff, super friendly & knowledgeable. Amazing American & European bottle selection, plus growler fills. Rare beer Tuesdays and often special casks on the weekends.

Perfect service, best possible selection in the state, almost always the cheapest prices. Super rare beers are often on tap at the growler station as well. This is the ONLY place you should be buying your beer if you live anywhere near Charleston. Insanely rare stuff on tuesdays. Racer X, Fedelta, Double Red Rocket UPDATE: Undeniably the best possible beer store that could possibly exist in South Carolina. Continually bringing in super rare stuff and inspiring local stores to up their game. That is a true test of greatness.

These guys are awesome. While visiting my buddy at College of Charleston, stopped by to check it out. They ship all over which is sweet and they have the best beer selection I have ever seen. They have some super rare stuff along with a lot of retired stuff and a lot of oddities they get from local brews just because they have good relationships with the brewers. A really amazing place. Did I mention they have 9 wild beers always on draft for take home growlers. While I was their this included things like Boy King IIPA by Coast (which was awesome) and Breakfast Stout by Founders. I mean these guys are killing it. I really love this place.
