This is my kind of bar. Easily one of my world favorites, not just FLA. Atmospheric and dedicated to fun as well beer. Cavernous and dripping with character. More like an old house than a bar, itís got different rooms, wooden floors, and feels cozy but alive. We pulled up in 35-degree weather and there was a bonfire going in the backyard. Inside there was no heating because this was rare weather for Florida. We shivered in one of the small back rooms that has a sofa and chair, skiing gear, and a hand-written sign saying "No Crack Smoking." We did refrain to be polite. They do allow ciggy smoking in here, tho. Billiards table. The staff loves beer and is knowledgeable. The first thing you see when you walk in is a wall of beer, and tap and bottle lists are more extensive than I expected. Youíd be a douchebag not to like this place. I could move in.

(Visited 07/2014): Cock & Bull is on Cattlemen Road west of Sarasota in the Fruitville area. It is not too far off I-75, and parking is available next to the building.

The darkly painted wood building has a smokehouse look, along with a hand painted "BEER" sign which is a nice touch. There is a patio with a fire pit as well. Inside, the bar area is to the left and there are tables to the right. Several coolers full of bottles behind the bar, and the taps are visible as well. In addition there is a large board listing the beers.

Cock & Bull has around 40 beers on draft, including a couple brewed at Big Top under the "Howieís" label. In addition to that there are craft breweries like St. Arnold, Southern Tier and Swamp Head. The coolers house hundreds of beers, with many local/regional craft breweries, domestic craft breweries and imports. Sample trays are available as well.

Service on a weekday evening at the bar was good. The bartenders were helpful in selecting beers and attentive throughout my visit.

Food at Cock & Bull is essentially pub grub and pizza. My sandwich was pretty good.

Overall this is a solid spot to hit for a good beer selection in Sarasota.

Very nice - probably my #2 beer bar in FL, behind Redlight and not counting Abbey in Deland (never been). They had three new beers on tap for me, which is very unusual for Florida. Great tap list, very extensive bottle list. Great atmosphere - like a cross between a roadhouse and a cottage. This place is well worth a visit - lots of character and a great beer list.

Been going to Sarasota for years and was aware of downtown location but no reason to use it. Found this location on Ratebeer. Love this part of the service. Great place with great people like Howie, Dawn and Tom. Selection is very good and all three went out of their ways to suggest brews when they knew my level of interest. Had the pretzel with beer cheese. Very good. One of three things on menu. When you have great beer, I donít need food. I went five nights. A Must Visit!

Visited here in late August í16 while in the area for business, Easy to miss location if you are not looking for it. Kind of a roadhouse style appearance to the place from the outside. Once inside, friendly staff, though not hugely beer knowledgeable, but the world does not revolve around us beer geeks. Have about 20 or so on tap and annoyingly they do not list on their electronic tap list the brewer, so I need to figure out who by looking on RBís website. Food leaves a lot to be desired, I had a flat bread Tapenade and while tasty, the topping was hot and the crust was cold. Huge bottle/can selection - easily over 200, separated somewhat by style, lots of surprises.Decently priced, nothing too out of the ordinary, but to the novice, would be quite impressive. Was here on a Monday evening which was open mic night. Worth a visit, just to experience.

This a fun dive bar to explore what beers are available in the local area. The bottle selection is displayed in glass door upright coolers behind the bar and was excruciatingly poorly organized, so it is very easy to miss a beer. Ostensibly organized by style, it was painfully obvious that the staff may not understand what beer is which style. The staff was very nice and pleasant, though. Pizza was good quality bar pizza. We left when the rockabilly band made conversation impossible.

Re-rating. Behind the bar are now numerous glowing refrigerators packed with hundreds of beers to choose from. The selection is excellent and limited only by distribution to Florida. Bar tenders are friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are a little high. The food is very average and slightly over priced. This is truly a great beer bar, however will never be one of the best in the country as long as they still allow smoking inside. If the owners take the beer aspect of this establishment more seriously they will end smoking. A great beer bar must be smoke free. Ambient smoke drastically impacts beer tasting. It makes no sense for this place not to be smoke free when they have a huge outdoor space for people to smoke in AND it is located in the warm and sunny state of Florida! Many beer bars in the North have been forcing smokers outside in sub zero temperatures for years now...

Visited on the way down to Sanibel last year. Very cool place. Inside is an old wooden house look with a long bar and tables in various rooms. Out back is a big porch that leads out to a back yard with picnic tables. Dogs were welcome (which is awesome). I donít remember the specifics on the beers, but there were a lot of bottles and a nice tap list. I remember being a little disappointed that Iíd just missed out on some cigar city taps. I think we had food but donít remember much about it. Overall this is the kind of place Iíd live at if it were in my home town.

Nice casual feel. Dark with lots of wood- even the feel of the woods. Prompt knowledgeable service. Large selection, including macros if youíre looking for a place to go with non-craft friends. We just ate the pretzel, but it could have been better, I think it was the kind you nuke and spray with water to attach the salt. Plus they no longer served what we wanted to eat and hadnít taken it off the menu yet. Prices seemed average. Definitely a good local place to go for brews.

So they have some beer so flipping what? What makes this place cool is the delightfully Key West meets a barn in Indiana look and feel. It literally looks like an old Florida Cracker home with the front porch, steepled roof and high cielings to let the heat rise. Decorated with a mash of beer related items, nifty thrift store furniture and manly wood accents.

Itís a dive by the standards of the Applebees-set, but this dive has gobs of character. It looks......enjoyed, enjoyed hard, enjoyed. That enjoyment is evidenced by the note I spied, which was tacked to the wall above the bar written by a patron apologizing for getting drunk and starting a fight.

Ok and the beer selection is cool too. Very eclectic tap lineup and they have beers they have probably even forgotten about. I definitely would like to spend more time at this place. Dawn owner/barmaid is very passionate about her position as a purveyor of fine beer.
