Amb: Belgian abbey themed pub, with warm ambiance, nice decoration (i.e. pictures of monks and brand merchandising), terrace available (in summer), etc. Serv.: The first of the two "pillars" of Drunk Monk (in my opinion). Nice service, a "walking encyclopedia" (Sven)... feel like home, but surrounded by hundreds of beers. Sel.: The second pillar. A MASSIVE beer list (massive in terms of quantity and quality). I miss some american and national (spanish) beers, but the beer chart is growing constantly. Food: The menu is not very extensive, but they have premium quality belgian cheeses and chocolates. The sandwitches are good (nice beef, pork, etc.) and the nachos amazing, but as I said, I miss more variety. Value: The "two pillars" mentioned before impact in the prize. I find some beers too expensive (specially the scottish ones), but in the end, you always finish with the feeling that they worth the price. Overall: Best beer place I’ve been on, nothing more to say.

a belgian beer bar in mataro owned and operated by a belgian. seems more appropriate in brugge or brussels. classic belgian brown bar interior. simple food menu but exceptional beer selection, with multiple belgian bottles what many would call medium-to-high rareness. vintage beers available as well. rotating drafts of belgian, spanish, danish and german beer. i’m sitting there drinking malvasia rosso and mamouche watching the next table over split a brutal IPA from newport, oregon. fun.

The Drunk Monk is most definitely one of the best places to find interesting beers in the world. The ambiance is wonderful. Knowledgeable serving staff who have worked there for years, clean as a whistle, and interesting decorations. The beer selection is great and not overwhelming. It constantly changes as the owner searches out new beers, and everyone there is there for the beer. It is not a tourist spot and most people are locals. I highly recommend it!

The best beer place in Barcelona (and probably in the whole Spain) is just…30km away, in the suburban coastal town of Mataró. Abbey tavern decoration. Great list of 300+ bottles and 6 taps (2 standard-Maes & Chimay, and 4 change every 3 weeks). A noteworthy line up of De Struise, a nice selection of Geuze & Lambic beers, all of the trappists are present, several premium Americans (Rogue, Yeti, Left Hand, Sierra Nevada), Brewdog shortlist, nice De Molen’s, Nogne Dark Horizon and of course the best Spanish micros. Beer of the week in special price (De Struise Doppel Strauss at the time being there). At the top the vintage list with Thomas Hardy’s Ale several editions included. Regarding food, you will find some eclectic finger-food, like the delicious trappist cheeses. Well informed waitresses. The mastermind behind all these is the Belgian owner, Sven. A pure aficionado of the brew culture. Always drinking and chatting about beers with the bar patrons. I really enjoyed the time with Sven and tasted together a couple of magnificent beers. Just hop on the next evening train to Mataró. Genial!
