Update: This place has made significant improvements since Tom began managing and doing the beer ordering. Definitely worth a stop! | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 13/20 DrSilverworm (30) Cincinnati, Ohio | June 29, 2012| Updated August 17, 2012 Interesting bar in Over-The-Rhine that my friends love to go to. Respectable collection of craft and local brews. The bar is very spacious, but always PACKED on weekends - it’s really exploded in popularity in the last year, I would highly suggest visiting on a weekday. It’s really interesting - there is a big open air patio, with bocce ball, and giant jenga. A bar is outside on the patio, and another inside. Inside, there is a pool table, and an upstairs area. Upstairs, there is a very cool place to chill, with couches, AC, a big screen TV, and free pool. There is a cooler at each bar, filled with some choice craft beer selections. This place is always filled the kind of people I like to hang out with. I frequently run into people I know but don’t hang out with, it’s always interesting 4 / 5 / 10 / 6 / 5 / 16
Edit (8/17/12): Pretty disappointed last time I went. More empty than usual. Slow service, bartender made people wait while they had 10m conversation. On the chalkboard in the bar, Neon’s lists the serving portions - 10, 16, or 20oz pours. I ordered a 16oz Old Rasputin, got a 10oz pour. Not even a snifter, a dinky little cocktail glass. I got lucky, because the bartender fixed it for me when I pointed at the chalkboard. A friend ordered a Founders Dirty Bastard, and she got a 10oz pour. She pointed out that the chalkboard advertised 16oz, and they said that they had to pour what the computer told them to pour, and "made it better" by fixing the chalkboard. My friend was stuck feeling ripped off. Founders Cerise listed as a 16oz pour for $5, so I ordered one thinking it was a good deal. Another 10oz pour. After some BS back-and-forth, he said he’d get me a pint of it, but "just this once", as if he was doing me a huge favor. I usually enjoy Neon’s, it’s a regular choice for my group of friends. But this last experience left a really bad taste in my mouth. If you say you’re going to pour a 16oz, and then hand a customer a 10oz pour you are cheating that customer... Going to try to avoid this place on the "trendier" nights | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Tmoney99 (366) Cincinnati, Ohio | April 29, 2012| Updated August 17, 2012 Easy to park. Easy to find.
Good place to smoke a cigar outside. Good beer selection and fair prices. Good locals place. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 phaleslu (314) Cincinnati, Ohio | April 23, 2012| Updated August 17, 2012 After my first couple visits to Neons Unplugged in Over-the-Rhine, I wasn’t quite sure whether it was worthy of listing here. However, the beer selection has gotten better each time I’ve been back. There is pretty much no BMC to bee had here, just craft stuff. There is always some Stone, DFH, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Moerlein on tap, along with some other rotating crafts. ’Pints’ here aren’t pints but 20 oz. glasses. Good rotating bottle selection, too; I had an Epic Sour Apple Saison the other night and saw many other intriguing offerings. Left Hand, Victory, DFH, lots of solid craft labels. Prices are good; seem high for taps until you realize how huge the glasses are. Locals are cheap. The scene is hip and tight inside, with a long brick wall dividing the inside and outside bars. The patio area is huge and has a campfire and usually someone grilling up burgers or something to eat. Always crowded. Used to be pretty much just hipster, now getting a bigger crowd. Anyway, I like the place and the beers and the location. Worth a visit if you’re out downtown or in OTR. |
