Thereís a lot to like about this boutique brewery on the outskirts of Napier. Thereís a comfortable new tasting room with a range of about 10 beers brewed here on draught, plus about five ciders and a couple of alcopops. The staff the day we visited were friendly and enthusiastic. The samplers of six 140ml tasters for NZ$9 are exceptional value. Thereís a cafe attached. Thatís all the good stuff. The problem is that the beer and ciders are mediocre at best. The fact they produce both of those plus alcopops suggest a business that is hedging its bets. Thereís loads of potential here with the right brewer. It felt more like a tourist destination than a brewery. Thereís plenty of product available for take-away in plastic bottles if anything takes your fancy. I had a sampler of six and left empty-handed.

Other comments below are spot on. Worth a stop if you are in the area and not really into wine.

If you approach this place as spacious cafe with garden bar where you can get a beer with your meal then your expectations are about right. The tasting trays are a bargain but sadly none of the beers (or ciders for that matter) are anything to write home about. Has enormous potential but the beers are just not that interesting.

The beer isnít great, the building is tacky and thereís a great view of the car park. But itís all Napierís currently got for a microbrewery. The seasonal wheat beer made the trip worthwhile .
