As the only serious place to come up on RateBeer for PEI...I obviously had to check it out when on the island. It was our only night in Charlottetown and we had dinner reservations elsewhere...but I convinced my family to walk around town on a beautiful summer evening while I sampled the Gahan House. Although only a Wednesday night...the place was packed and it took me a few minutes to get a bar seat. Once I did I tried the flights and sampled "all" of their beers. I found many of them to be of an English style (common up this way) and ranging in quality from not bad to pretty good...or another way of saying it...none were terrible and none were great. The staff and customers were very friendly and the ambiance great. From looking at the food delivered to others and asking for a few comments...it was clear the food was certainly comparable to the enjoyable atmosphere...beer...and vibe. I would come back here again if in the area...but I would not say this is necessarily a destination place for the craftbeer fan.

Really enjoyed my brief visit to PEI and had a fun afternoon at The Gahan House chatting with the staff and locals at the bar. Solid beers on tap; especially their stout. Good pub fare and ambiance. Easy to see why they are expanding.

The Gahan House is a great old brick house on Sydney Street in the heart of Charlottetown. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, low-lit, and old bricks and wood with some modern accents. Well-staffed with attractive young ladies. I normally default to a 10 for selection at brewpubs, but this place was out of their IPA, just retired the Cream Ale, and ran out of the only seasonal between our first and second visits here. Even if it is busy season, be prepared. If youíre out of one thing thatís understandable but being out of multiple things (and not discounting samplers) doesnít sit well with me, especially when one of the sampler pours was just a mix of the Honey Wheat and Brown ales. The mussels were awesome, maybe the best we had on the island. Burger was decent and fish and chips were very good. Love the fries here, and pretty much everywhere on PEI. We didnít manage to make it in for one of the $8 tours (5 and 7 daily) but with a tiny brewing operation in the basement Iím not sure if it would have been worth it anyway. At least it wasnít $16 like the Keithís tour. Iíd like to visit here again during a less busy time of year and try a few more of their beers; most were average except for the very good Sydney Street Stout.

Lovely old building in downtown Charlottetown. A little dark inside but maybe I should have sat by a window. very cosy feel. Great pub for the winter months. I had the sampler tray with seven of the Gahan House ales. Pretty standard with the stout and IPA standing out. The food was tasty and at a great value, The service was excellent. Nice place.

Popped in on a Thursday and it was PACKED! Time for a sampler paddle only, unfortunately no time for food. Despite the crowd I had no trouble placing my order and service was super fast. Beautiful interior. Iíd love to come back for a meal and a longer sit.

This place was packed when I stopped in for a drink. I stood at the bar while reviewing there beers. It was a pretty cool place. The coolest of all was what they call "little buddy" I think it was two or three pitchers poured from the tap into a large clear cylinder with a tap on the bottom. They then set it on a little stand and placed it on your table. That was my highlight of the night.

Foolishly, I set out for dinner with the folks, sister and wife in tow on the evening of Canada Day in historic, lovely and expensive, Charlottetown. Needless to say, the place was packed like sardines and we found a nice bistro a block or so away. Returned the next evening to grab a glass and hoist a few. Lots of wood, and little kitch. Bar was well apportioned and had friendly wait staff. They had two on what looked like firkin taps but I tried the stout and the 1772 (had the wife breathing down my neck).. I figured if I had to sit thru Anne of Green Gables the Musical..I would be good for a few brews at the local. WTF! Place was still busy and the beer a pleasant cahnge from the macro clone swill behind the wave crap I had been consming thus far on the vacation. Noisy, but with conversation and no pounding music. They didnt even blink when I showed bad form in asking for a pen and paper/beer mat.

Lovely. Fairly quiet. They offer a six-beer sampler of their regular beers, so be sure to ask them to augment it with their seasonal beers, too if you want to taste all eight. Very nice couches and tables. Lots of couples on dates. Professional servers.

Tucked away on a side street downtown, our group of 4 visited this quaint old house last August for a fairly busy Wednesday dinner. Samplers in threes were tasty enough but similar to each other (must be the yeast). Fish in a bag and chips were fresh and nicely prepared. Service was fair and unobtrusive. Downstairs has a whole bunch of neat things to look at in terms of brewing facilities and posters and old photos. The place was packed by the time we left so it was good we got there early.

Itís quite a beautiful place as has been stated by my illustrious predecessors; originally we planned to eat here but the place was packed and there was no room for us for quite some time so we ate across the street at the Irish pub (quite decent). My brother and I came back later for the beer, which was I guess better than I expected from the only brewpub in a whole province, in a very small city -- but still nothing to write home about. The stout was decent, maybe more than that, and surprisingly the honey wheat was all right, but the other four samples were mediocre to poor, somewhat infected/off for the most part. Friendly service and a nice crowd -- dunno if Iíll ever be back but I wouldnít say no.
