Ginger Man reminds me something of the Brick Store in Georgia, in that perhaps it pioneered the craft beer bar scene a few years ago but has perhaps been surpassed in focus by newer competition. I donít mean to say anything negative about the Ginger Man, the beer selection is fantastic. There are more than enough options, but there are a few taps of things like Stella or Miller LIght that beer snobs just wouldnít drink. The ambiance is cozy and warm. The bartenders were great, helpful and knowledgeable. If I lived here, Iíd be back whenever I was on this end of town.

Downtown Austin. A very big gingerman with outdoor patio. What seems usual for TX gingermanís: an out of date beer list. Plenty of taps, bored service. Even for someone who lives in CA: not many ticks. Decent, but there are other stops downtown Iíd rather revisit.

Made a quick stop downtown on my way to Rainey Street to check out the Ginger Man. Atmosphere was pretty solid, only a few people inside at the bar while the rest were out back enjoying the nice weather. Quality was pretty high, nice building inside and out and the beers were all served in correct glasses. Service was good, had to wait a bit for my bill but they were just starting an event and it was becoming a bit hectic. Selection was pretty good, beers from all over the world as well as plenty from TX. Prices were on par with all of the other bars I visited in the area. Overall an awesome beer bar in the heart of the city, I would definitely return if I am ever in the area again.

Apparently this is a chain of beer places, but it doesnít feel like it. What it does feel like is a night bar, where you go to at the end of the night to combine friend, strangers and good beer. Loads of taps here, including lots of locals and a great amount of styles. The local stuff was tasty too and the bartenders knew their stuff. It gets busy though, and together with the atmosphere it is more of a beer geek midnight sinkhole than a nippy picky tasting room. Prices are reasonable and the food is very decent too, albeit not being a food place by itself (and you can take your own if you want; I recommend then Surf & Turf place around the corner). Mostly young crowd here. Great selection, good bar.

Doesnt really feel like a chain. Kinda dingy and dark, but they have a couch/reading area, which is cool. Service is actually really good, which is also nice. Pretty large beer list, but amazingly, nothing really stood out, and they were out of my first two choices. Nothing wrong with this place at all, but the second best in Austin? I hope not.

Visited October 2011.
Having been to several Ginger Man locations now they seem to have a theme, that theme being dark, old looking, and a ton of taps. I guess the one in NYC is a bit different than the ones in Dallas and Austin but youíll know when you walk into a Ginger Man. The tap list is extensive and they actually move the stuff which helps. I tried some of the new releases from New Belgium (the cocoa mole beer I think) and listened to some music from the jukebox before heading out. Service was friendly though they got busy and were hard to get ahold of at times. Prices are good during happy hour and reasonable the rest of the time. Didnít eat. Also, donít compare this to Yard House, certain people will get mad.

Nice taphouse in centre of Austin. Lots of taps and also nice amount of Texan brews (Live Oak, St Arnold, 512, Real Ale, Rahr, Independence...) on taps too. Service was OK.

Planned a visit here when going to a conference in Austin - ended up paying 3 visits - 50+ beers available on tap with a nice ambiance - a bit hipster for my liking, but Iíll take that over music blasting and mediocre taps. Dark atmosphere with a TV off in the corner and a couple dart boards...the reason to come here is the beer, and rightfully so. Was stoked to try some local beers, and their selection of Live Oak, 512 and other was incredible. Also enjoyed some Rahr BB Winter Warmer and DFH 90 minute. Didnít eat here, but not much of a food selection. Prices good by my standards (though Iím from Chicagoland). You probably donít want to wait at a table to be served, they really donít make the rounds, even when it isnít busy, but thatís not a big deal in my mind. Would I go back again...I went here 3 times in 4 days, so I guess the answer is íyesí - hopefully I make it back here someday!
