80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 maniac (98) Baltimore, Maryland | June 26, 2007 RBSG 2007 Pub Crawl. Fairly sizeable bar which was drawing a fairly large crowd, but we managed to find a spot at the bar. A very nice tap selection including several Surly brews on cask. Bottle selection seemed excellent as well. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 sliffy (86) Columbus, Ohio | June 26, 2007 I’ll second 1FastSTi on the...err, scenery. Great tap list there, didn’t get a chance to look at the bottle list however, though the vintage beers in the parking lot were far superior. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 1FastSTi (103) Glendale, Wisconsin | June 26, 2007 The eyecandy was nice here. Lots of taps and bottles. There’s a bar and patio out back. Very quaint and hopping at the same time. I would go there often if the place existed in Milwaukee. The crowd is young! Yay! Barkeeps were a little slow at times. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 mistersinalin (24) St. Paul, Minnesota | May 1, 2007 This place has a nice bar and a great patio. If you want to enjoy the great outdoors, you will give up some service and beer knowledge as the servers are not as attentive or as knowledgeable as the bartenders. The beer list is great for taps (rotated often) and bottles. The prices are a bit high but somehow worth it as the beers are fresh and uncommon. A $13 venison burger seemed steep but was quite good and far from ordinary. Homemade fries and homemade catsup (I think) really made a difference. The great neighborhood feel keeps me coming back as well. Not far from downtown St. Paul it is worth a stop. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 RagallachMC (30) Cleveland, Ohio | April 11, 2007 Cool looking bar upfront with a more ’family style’ section in the back for dining. I was with family, so to the back we went. Service was friendly, but didn’t seem to know a whole lot about their beer list. Selection was pretty good with a nice selection of locals on tap with some good national/global choices thrown in too. Their bottle list was nice, as well. Didn’t eat, but their menu looked good and the food I saw looked nice. Overall, if I lived nearby, I would be here all the time. Great bar. | 58 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 10/20 BDR (61) Roseville, Minnesota | March 22, 2007| Updated March 26, 2012 Nice ambiance and good food. Nice selection of taps as well as well as some good bottled selections. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 incutrav (3) Woodbury, Minnesota | March 16, 2007| Updated March 26, 2012 The happy G nome is the palce to be for the finest selection of brews! All the surly, some rougues, tons of taps, prices are probably a little steep but most beers you cant get anywhere else. The best beer bar in the midwest! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 undsioux7 (12) Eden Prairie, Minnesota | December 2, 2006| Updated March 26, 2012 Just a really nice place to go and hang out. The bar is big and there is a little area right in front of the taps that is a nice place to sit. Will certainly go there again. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 muzzlehatch (255) Burlington, Vermont | November 28, 2006| Updated March 26, 2012 Visited in early October and had dinner as well as a couple of nice pints (Rogue Imperial Porter, Summit 20th Anniv). Ambiance different in the front barroom and back seating area...the back is somewhat bland cheap light wood, a bit 60s-ish I thought, but the more we sat it grew on me, very midwestern-supper club; the front bar is a bit more eclectic and interesting. Food was a surprise, really outstanding with lots of local ingredients and quite eclectic. Not many cities where you’d have a better time than to hit this place and it’s sister The Muddy Pig just a couple of blocks away... | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 Stine (74) Minneapolis, Minnesota | November 10, 2006| Updated March 26, 2012 This is in my neighborhood, and conveniently it’s my favorite place to hang out to do anything. I’ve had many study-beers here, and many social beers here. Great rotating tap selection of American micros and some belgians and a long selection of the same in bottles, with typical taps consisting of Arcadia, Bell’s, Summit, Victory, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, and Surly seasonals and standards. The food is delicious and creative, and the wine list is unique. It is a bit spendy, but what the hell. The quiet, classy ambience of Cathedral Hill is all tucked into this one bar, a single place that sums up why i love St. Paul so much more. |
